The BBC have published a great interview with Eoin Colfer on their site. It talks about the end of the series, what’s next for Eoin, and some general questions for Eoin himself, including this gem:
What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
I once summoned a hotel manager to my room to demand he find the source of the weird buzzing noise. After 30 minutes of searching we found that the noise was coming from my electric toothbrush which had somehow gotten switched on it my suitcase.
Thanks to ILoveFowl (Check out her Fowl Manor Tumblr), we’ve found out that Eoin Colfer has released a quick video on his upcoming (And final) Artemis Fowl book, The Last Guardian.
Check it out to hear more on the plot for this one.
Well, another year has passed, and another set of board awards has run its course. We’d like to thank everyone for their votes, nominations, and every bit of help you may have put into this project to get it on its way.
And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for (or some of us may have skipped to)…

Congratulations to all the winners! Hopefully we’ll get your post counts updated as soon as possible.
And with that, another year of FanGathering board awards has come and passed. We hope you all enjoyed them, and will stick around to participate in next year’s awards as well!
Why, you ask, are we beginning with a word that we have to define for most people to understand? The answer is simple. Writers, Fangirls, and ghosts alike: the AF Fanfiction editors are proud to present to you a new writing challenge, centered around this word (or its meaning, more specifically). Your challenge is to create four songfictions based on or starring four different Artemis Fowl characters and the meanings of their names.
The Rules and Requirements:
Your songfictions must be at least five hundred words each.
All submissions must adhere to the archive rules. This includes spelling and grammar.
They must feature one character from the book per each songfiction.
All four songfictions must be under one post, to make it easier for our judges to locate them.
Your entries must be emailed by midnight EDT on August thirty-first to the Editors’ designated email: fangatheringfiction@gmail.com.
The finished product must be categorized as a ‘Challenge Entry’.
You may not ask any other member for help, or help another participating member, have anyone beta your songfictions, or give any constructive criticism.
Winner receives the honor to have their entry known as an Editor’s choice fanfiction, and will be placed in the Featured Stories page for all to read in the future. Our judges will be Artificial Asian and FowlStar.
Good luck! We look forward to reading your entries. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the editor team through email or PM us.
Our FanFiction gallery is approaching 3000 Artemis stories, and over 40,000 reviews on them (And countless more ratings…). All in all, it’s a pretty damn good place to be if you’re into Artemis and like to write (Or read, loads of the stories would make Eoin himself proud!)
It’s been a long time since it was updated though and was starting to show its age. Today, we’ve fully redone the fanfic gallery to bring you 3 major upgrades:
Lovely new design to match the rest of the site! (So at last, every part of this site now gels together perfectly!)
Favorites – When you find a story you love, hit the “Add to Favorites” button and it will be saved for you (And you can see anyone’s favorites by visiting their profile).
Reading Mode – Reading Mode helps give you the best reading experience possible. We hide away all of the clutter and give you gorgeous, easy-to-read typography. Try it out on any story!
Let us know what you think! (And if you spot any bugs we’ve missed, post them here please! 🙂 )
Our Fan Art gallery is one of the things we’re most proud of here. Thousands of you have joined up to it, to a point where it’s the largest collection of Artemis Fowl Fan Art on the web.
If you’ve spent any time in it recently though, you’ll know its been in need of an upgrade. Our spam-protection broke down a few months ago and the place was overrun.
At last, I can finally say it’s been sorted! But more than that, we have a whole new custom theme that integrates perfectly with the rest of the site.
And we’ve changed our site navigation to make it easier to swap between the most important parts of this site; the forum, the fan art, and the fan fiction.
Thank you for bearing with us during our spammy times, let’s hope we never have to sit through them again though!
With all that’s been going on this year we’ve started these [really, really, really, really] late. But here they are again, the annual Fangathering awards! Where you can nominate your fellow users for all sorts of prestigious awards, such as the “Fangathering Ate my Homework” award and “Pirate of the Year.”
The competition is, as usual, extremely tight.
The Mechanics
Voting
Each person may vote for a maximum of three people per category where a voter’s first choice is given three points, the second choice two points, and the third choice one point.
Voting will be made public. One can vote by simply posting and assigning points on the category threads.
Logically, you also are not allowed to vote for yourself.
Voting begins August 17th, and ends on August 27th, just in time for the next installment of FanGathering’s newsletter, The Haven Herald.
Prizes
Like last year’s awards, each winner gets a 30 post boost to their post count, and of course, bragging rights for the next year.
And just a little reminder: please do remember that this is all for fun! The Categories
Eoin Colfer has told The Guardian that the next book in the series, number 8, is going to be the very last one.
Aside from that sad news, he does give us his plans for the story and what will come of Artemis. Read below to hear what will happen (No spoilers for either book 8 or The Atlantis Complex).
Or if you’d rather see the full interview, just click here to watch the video on the Guardian site! Including a quick excerpt reading from The Atlantic Complex, and something that the A/H shippers are *not* going to like!
One more book, and then that’ll be the end of that,” he said. “He will be faced with a choice where he can be kind to somebody and he won’t gain anything, or he can be unkind and he will find a million dollars in a suitcase, and he will choose the nice way, and that will be the end,” he explained. “That’s how I’m going to finish it, on a very simple choice.”
The child mastermind has changed through the series, Colfer continued, from being “pretty much your standard bad guy … kind of two dimensional”, to someone with “a bit of a conscience”. “He’s gone from being this horrible bad guy to being more of a Robin Hood kind of guy, where he does commit crimes, but you feel they’re kind of warranted,” he said.
Like Peter Pan, Colfer explained, Fowl will put away the magic, the childish things, but he will also do something “that could be considered very human”. “There’s not going to be any huge battle, and going up the stairs to heaven, it’s not going to be that kind of finish.” he added. “There will be the big adventure, but the end will be in a little epilogue. End of story.
What are your thoughts? Would you rather see things ending differently? Or would you rather just not see things end at all?
Today a new Artemis Fowl book, The Atlantis Complex, goes on sale!
Everyone is probably going to rush out and buy their copies. However, after you’ve read it, make sure to keep the spoilers to yourself!
All Atlantis Complex topics should go in the Fowl of the Future forum for now and all fanfictions should have bolded disclaimers if they have spoilers in it! As a Canadian I don’t get the book until August 3rd (I don’t know how I’m going to wait!) and I know that I personally don’t want to be spoiled. 🙂 So have respect for the other people who are like me!
On a different note, you can leave your reviews of the book in the comments section or head on over to our forums to start discussing any crazy plot twists or theories you might have!
Don’t forget to vote for our admin, MichaelM,in his online contest here.
I need your help! I’m very close to winning a major competition, but I still need more votes. It only takes 30 seconds, please click here and then click the pink “VOTE FOR THIS CANDIDATE” button!
If I win, I will run a major competition here just for FanGathering readers, so there’s a good chance you’ll win something back in return! We will have plenty of prizes up for grabs!
And you can vote on that page every 24 hours, so please keep clicking! If we get to number 1, I promise you’re going to love the competition we run!
