Book Recommendation: So you Want to be a Wizard, by Diane Duane

So you want to be a Wizard is a magical book about two thirteen-year-olds, Nita and Kit. Nita is an outcast, who loves to read. While being chased by some bullies she runs into the library and hides in the child’s section. There she finds a book called So you Want to be a Wizard right next to books like So you Want to be a Fireman and So you to be a Carpenter. She takes it out and discovers that it is. The book tells Nita that she must undergo the Wizard’s Ordeal so she can practice the science-like magic that is taught in the book.

Later she meets Kit, another young wizard, and a white hole named Fred. They embark on an adventure to an alternate New York to combat an evil and powerful wizard.

This book is the first in its series, and introduces a lot of interesting concepts. The magic deals with the rules of science brought to another level. It’s an amazing science-fiction/fantasy book that will entertain anybody.

  7. I love the piece on Children’s Literature. If the author happens to see this I’d love to be allowed to quote that off site on one of my profiles. It’s excellent.

  8. I wrote it, and I’m quite honoured that you like it that much! You can quote it, but I’d appreciate it if you could find a way to site it to the Herald. Just a little footnote, it doesn’t have to be big.

  9. Wonderful article on Children’s literature BlackOpal! I’m getting my mother to read it.

Hey dewds!! In the article about Far From Normal, it says something about Dauphin Island. That’s in Alabama. I live like ten minutes from “The Island” as we Mobilians call it. That freaked me out for some reason.

Nice Christmas jingle, by the way. πŸ˜‰
