Many people have tried to stop us. A virus, no inspiration…Could it have been any worse? The Haven Herald might not have come out this time. But, no one managed to stop us: not a computer virus, not writer’s block. And here it is, a brand new Haven Herald for you to enjoy. Let FanGathering be an example to the team making the Artemis Fowl Movie. Never give up, and keep that movie production rolling!

About a week ago, we were hacked. We apologize profusely to any of you who have had to avoid the site over the past few days, or worse, were infected by it. 🙁

Thankfully we are safe again, and hopefully that will have been both the first and last time we ever have this problem on FanGathering!

We have a “Half-russian hacker” to thank for fixing the site. They wished to remain anonymous, but asked me to share this video with you. Thanks hacker!

Hey everyone! darvit here.

If you’re an Internet Explorer user, please read this carefully.

I just found out this afternoon that FanGathering has been injected with some malicious code. This code would basically redirect its users to another site and could possibly make them download some harmful viruses or trojans. All the affected areas include this main site (only this first page; I’ve checked the rest and they are clean), the FanFiction Archive, and the obviously messed up FanArt Gallery (which the hacker initially infected).

The good news: not all users would be able to experience the effects of such malicious codes. If you’re using Firefox, Opera, Safari, or even Konqueror, the script would not work on your browsers.
The bad news: all the Internet Explorer users (yes, that means you!) are affected.

I suggest that you upgrade to either one of the latest browsers right now:

  1. Firefox
  2. Opera
  3. Safari

More good news: The Artemis Fowl FanGathering Forum is the safest place if you’re an IE/Windows user.

Don’t panic. Just run a virus scan to be sure, but don’t panic.

I have contacted MichaelM and I’m sure he will respond soon when he wakes up or something.

Please update your friends and warn them beforehand [e.g. through IM or email, etc.], even if you’re not sure if they’re even using IE in the first place! Thanks!

UPDATE: Please send your friends this link in order to inform them of the attack. Don’t make them go to the main FG page because that wouldn’t be too wise. XD http://forum.fangathering.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4859
UPDATE 16-April-2008: Please read an update on our progress here.

Opening the heavy glass door, Butler walks into the dark FanGathering Headquarters and scans the room looking for signs of trouble before allowing Artemis to come in.

“Hmm…Because it is one in the morning, no one should be in here besides a few weak security personnel,” Butler thinks to himself as he waves for Artemis to come in.

Catching up to Butler, Artemis whispers, “The Site Team’s newest newsletter is on the tenth floor. I heard this month’s issue will have a FanFiction theme filled with a plethora of articles and awards. Let’s hurry and steal it before one of the moderators comes to work!”

Airman Cover
REMINDER about the Elseworlds Fanfiction Contest:

Saturday is the Absolute Latest I’ll take any fan fictions. If it’s not in by the end of Saturday Night Live (1:00 AM Sunday Morning, US Eastern Standard Time) it won’t be entered. A few things to remember:

  1. NO NON-CANON SEQUELS. If you’re not sure what this means, a non canon sequel is “What if this happened,” and Elseworlds is “What if this were different”.
[Still unclear? Here’s a longer explanation: Non-Canon vs. Elseworlds.]
  2. It must be posted IN ONE POST on either the forums or the fanfiction Archive and the link must be PMed to me, or posted on the contest announcement on the Archive, for those of you without forum accounts.
  3. Nothing Inappropriate. There are children on this site, so please no Lemon. They should have a PG-13 Rating at the highest.
  4. No crossovers.
  5. No shorter than 700 Words. (But don’t make it too long, I don’t want to read a novel!)
  6. Have fun with it. There’s no penalty for not winning, and I won’t humiliate people. I’ll be announcing the Top 3 Fanfictions. Remember, The winner will either win a copy of Airman or we’ll pre-order Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox. 2nd and 3rd place will get honorable mention and their Stories will be put in an “Award Winning” Category on the Archive.

[darvit’s note: More details on the prize–delivery, shipping, etc–could be found here.]

Happy writing (hopefully editing by this point)!

Airman has been released at last (Depends slightly on where exactly you live. You may have to wait another week or 2 if you’re unlucky!). We’ve been talking about it for a while here, but you can read a great overall review of it at the Guardian.

In short, it rocks! It’s slightly darker than the Artemis Fowl series, but perhaps even more clever as well. You’ll have to read it to find out if it suits you. 😉

And from the official site, we’ve just heard that Colfer is going on tour in the US, to celebrate the launch. Have a look at Colfer’s event calendar to see if he’s coming near you.

Has anyone here read it yet? Or planning on reading it?

FanGathering is an Artemis Fowl fansite. You can see the official Artemis Fowl UK and Artemis Fowl US sites at these links.
