Children of the Lamp, the Akhenaton Adventure, by P.B Kerr
This is a thrilling story about two twins, John and Phillippa Gaunt. They go to the dentist to get their wisdom teeth extracted, and suddenly, their parents are afraid of them, and try to send them to a boarding school. Their Uncle, Nimrod, doesn’t like this idea, and knowing the twins’ parents wouldn’t oppose them, he told them to ask if they could come to London for the summer. There he tells them that they are both actually Djinn (our word, Genie, but don’t use that, they hate it…) and takes them to Egypt to grow used to their astounding powers. There, they meet a Djinn from an evil tribe, who is intent on finding the seventy lost Djinn of Akhenaton and binding them to evil, forever tilting the balance of luck in the world to evil. Can the twins with their newfound powers stop him?

Also in the Children of the Lamp series: The Blue Djinn of Babylon, The Cobra King of Kathmandu, and The Day of the Djinn Warrior.

The Lost Years of Merlin, by T.A. Barron
These books start with the story of a young boy named Emyrs, who finds himself and a woman, presumably his mother, washed up on a beach in Wales. He finds shelter in an oak tree, where he is attacked by a wild boar. The boar is run off by a white stag.
Emyrs has no memory of his past, and begins to doubt his origins. A freak incident leaves him blind in the eyes, and sets him wondering more about his past and his future. He leaves his mother, and finds himself, once again, washed up on foreign shores.
This time he finds himself in Fincayra, which is neither the land of the living nor the land of the dead, but one in between. There he meets a hawk, a tiny giant and a girl named Rhiannon, who was raised by the trees.
This book is dictated from Emyrs’ point of view with flawless perfection. With him we learn about life, time, and true names and their significance.
