This is purely a one-shot. Read, Review, and Rate! This is probably one of the best romance stories I’ve wrote so far! enjoy! (PS, Sorry if the grammar is bad, I wrote this at 2 in the morning)
“Dar’vit!” He screamed, walking down the hall “That damn centaur better have a good reason for looking like such a fool with his stupid tinfoil hat! He should be here right now!”
Today was not a good day for Julius. Almost all of his patrol men were out on duty dealing with his brother after what had happened with Holly’s interogation. The halls of the LEPReacon were empty, so silent you could hear a pin drop. Nobody was there to help him look over Holly’s progress… no one.
He sat frustrated in the coffee room,a dim lit light barely highlighting the features of his face. He swore under his breath, going over her papers. He needed more than his own imput- but who? Nobody was there, nobody who even had the slightest in sight on Short. He lit another fungus cigar, fumes of smoke circling around his face.
“I swear Root, sometimes you seem to have a shorter temper than a troll”
He turned around, to find Wing Commander Vinyaya pouring herself a cup of coffee.
“You know, caffiene is concidered a drug for mudmen. Of course, it’s legal, but still” She began, taking a sip of the room temperature, office standard coffee.
“I don’t have time to talk about drugs with you wing commander”
“Then what’s so important that your sitting here all stressed, contimplating over a piece of paper? All your officers are out taking care of things”
“Except you…” He began, pushing down his cigar into the ash tray. A few stray ashes floated down upon him, a annoyed look on his face. “Why arn’t you out there too?”
“Paper work” She responded, lifting up a stack of papers “You think what your reviewing is tricky? try what I’m doing”
He peered over- it was Holly status report.
“This girl is a tricky one… I remember when I just began teaching her how to ride a pod, and look at her now, nearly killed by her brother”
This statement hurt as much as it seemed. But Root was not a man of emotion, especially when it came to conversations with women… and Vinyaya.
“Well guess what I’m doing?”
“Holly Shorts paperwork”
“DAR’VIT!” She exclaimed, stomping her foot on the ground “Root! you stupid troll! we could of finished already if you’d told me you were working on her report TOO”
“Look who’s talking! wouldn’t it be a bit obvious to you that I was back here? concidering were the only two people in this whole office!”
“Really?” she suddenly asked, intrested
“Yeah, Really Vinyaya”
“Not even Foaly on security cameras?”
“Nope… all of them, gone, down in the island with my brother and Holly”
She sat down- “Really? why is Holly still there?”
“I lead her on… I automatically told her she was in. But I’m not so sure”
She sat down, intreged.
“I don’t see why not? She’s an excellent addition to the team”
“But still… I couldn’t imagine it…”
“That’s because it’s never happened before, Root”
“What?” He asked, looking up at Vinyaya- Her hair was let back, silver tresses of hair tucked behind her ear. She looked right back up a him “A woman, Root. Your not used to having such a powerful young woman on your team because you never had”
“I beg your parton…” Julius began, scooting his papers to the side “… But your forgetting someone”
“Who?” She asked
She tried not to take the compliment too seriously. She knew Julius was just trying to flirt with her so he could make a point. He didn’t want to admit he was wrong for not seeing her first- so she just played along.
“But you know who else reminds me of Holly?”
“Who’s that?” Julius asked, lighting another cigar
“You… minus the crooked nose from breaking it too much” She replied, jokingly, playfully bopping him on the nose.
Julius became suspicious. Vinyaya was trying to prove him wrong. But Julius was never wrong- atleast, he thought so. She was just trying to tempt him, he thought. If they hadn’t been fighting over finishing Hollys paperwork, he would of already been done. But he had a few tricks up his sleeve.
“So what do you think?” He asked “Is Holly in?”
“Why not? she could make a great commander like you some day”
Now she was really getting on his nerves. She was trying to temp him over, then fine. But now, she was just making it too obvious. Two can play at that game, he thought.
“She’s in, after all, we need more Vinyaya’s in the Reacon”
That just put her on edge. He thought he could smooth talk his way too her? That he could just prove himself by saying things that he thought would romance her? far from it. She wasn’t going to let anybody, especially Julius, prove her wrong. It was time he got a taste of his own medicine.
She leaned over, and kissed him. And again. And again.
“Stop… trying to prove me wrong” She whispered in his ear
He kissed her back
She kissed him back
“It isn’t working, you know I’m right”
He wrapped his arms around her, smiling
“We can do this all night if I really can get you to admit your wrong”
But then Vinyaya stopped. She couldn’t kiss Julius Root? why would she go as far as kissing Julius Root to prove herself? She’d never do that… ever. Why would she kiss him? She looked up at him, and he smiled.
“You know, you arn’t going to prove anything when your trying to rat me out like this”
He leaned into her, smiling.
“Liar, Liar, Liar”
“That goes for both of us” She whispered in his ear, kissing him again. But that time, she never let go of him. As long as she could prove him wrong. She’d do anything to prove him wrong. Because Vinyaya had just won.
“Are you sure?”
He enbraced her even tighter, kissing him again.
“Prove me wrong”
