Holly darted home on her new Foaly Co. wings. Ugh! What a day. A goblin had gotten hold of a pair of wings, and had been dared by his friends to zip above Florida while wearing a toga of cam foil. Unfortunately, this created the illusion that very ugly body parts were flying on their own. Some junior photographer had put this on the internet, and it had taken all day to flush every trace of goblin from freakyphotos.com and ufositings.net.
            Holly glanced up to see Trouble holding a cup of hot chocolate, smiling. Her problems melted away the minute she made contact with the elf’s eyes.

Holly jumped up, hugging her husband. Since Trouble was now a commander, he could go home early. This usually meant a hot meal ready for Holly every night. They sat on the couch, talking about nothing like a pair of teenagers.

Meanwhile, above ground, Artemis waited impatiently by the door. Minerva was coming over. The boy’s stomach fluttered in anticipation. The two genii had been dating for months, and Minerva was all he thought about, unless his brain was needed elsewhere. His girlfriend was always there for him when being a genius was too much. Minerva was the only one who understood his lectures (Butler fell asleep in the middle of one, Juliet just listened to her iPod) and laughed at his jokes. It was a match made in heaven!

The doorbell rang. Artemis jumped, the usual thrill of delight roaring around his ribs. He opened the door to find his blonde girlfriend hurriedly fixing her hair. When she met his eye, Minerva blushed. She walked in.
            The two had so much to talk about! But didn’t they always? They were genii, after all. The brain needs a challenge, and Artemis had found talking with Minerva to be very challenging, because she asked him the most difficult questions. It was invigorating.

Holly had fallen asleep against Trouble’s shoulder. The elfin Commander was stroking his wife’s short auburn tresses, watching his love sleep. She really is lovely, thought Trouble. I am so lucky to have her.
            Before Holly dated Trouble, her dreams used to be filled with her deepest desires. To be accepted for who she was, or to have her family back. Now that Trouble was in her life, Holly didn’t need these things anymore. She still mourned her parents, but Trouble was her family now. Trouble accepted her for what she was, respecting and loving her. Now Holly’s dreams were simply that life stayed the same.

Artemis was showing Minerva his latest experiment: to stamp out cancer for good. Ever since Minerva had entered his life, Artemis was brimming with desire to make the world a better place. His girlfriend watched with fascination as Artemis showed her each part of the experiment. The boy was surprised to find he was smiling. That was odd for him. Usually, if not shown something of great amusement, Artemis’s features stayed blank. But how could he not smile? Minerva made each day funny and enriching. What more could you ask for?

Holly awoke, stretching and yawning. Trouble was half asleep himself, and, realizing Holly was awake, playfully pulled her down again, yanking the blanket up to his chin. Holly suppressed a laugh, not wanting to fully wake up Trouble. She rested on the elf’s chest, feeling his heart beat. Holly kissed Trouble gently on the cheek, slipping into a deep sleep. It might have been her imagination, but Holly swore Trouble’s heart beat increased.

The two pairs of lovers were the happiest they could’ve ever been. True love lit up their lives like a candle. There might be some bumps along the way, but it was obvious that the four friends would live happily ever after.
