Tonight, Tonight, by Hot Chelle Rae (word count: 1064)

Monday. Demoted to Custodian at law firm.
Tuesday.  Bills to pay. No money in the bank.
Wednesday. Demoted to Assistant Custodian.
Thursday. Fined $165 for speeding.
Friday. Tripped on a mop, fell, and broke nose.
Saturday. Fired from minimum wage job.
Sunday. Caught girlfriend making out with former best friend.

It’s been a really really messed up week
Seven days of torture, seven days of bitter
And my girlfriend went and cheated on me
She’s a California dime but it’s time for me to quit her

La la la, whatever, la la la, it doesn’t matter, la la la, oh well, la la la

“Yo yo yo! Beckett, my man, you there?”  It was Zephaniah,  Beckett’s buddy from work.

“Yeah.  How’s life going for ya?” Beckett spun around to face Zephaniah.

“Great!” Zephaniah lowered his voice, “Hey, listen, there’s a party at Kaylee’s tonight. You wanna come?”

“Heck, yeah!”

We’re going at it tonight tonight
There’s a party on the rooftop top of the world
Tonight tonight and were dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign
I don’t know if I’ll make it but watch how good I’ll fake it
Its all right, all right, tonight, tonight

La la la, whatever, la la la, it doesn’t matter, la la la, oh well, la la la

Beckett ran a finger through his long curly hair, with Zephaniah’s last words still ringing in his ears. Eight o’clock. Be there. Hah. Beckett had never missed a party in his life.

We’re going at it tonight tonight
There’s a party on the rooftop top of the world
Tonight tonight and were dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign
I don’t know if I’ll make it but watch how good I’ll fake it
Its all right, all right, tonight, tonight

You got me singing like
Woah, come on, ohh, it doesn’t matter, woah, everybody now, ohh

It was half past seven. Beckett was waiting right outside of Fowl Manor, his restless hands revealing away how nervous he was, despite his calm demeanor. Finally, the limo pulled up.

Beckett got in, just to time to see the driver, this middle-aged lady named Maria, grin.

“Hey, it’s you again. The crazy one, who stays out all night. Betcha your parents don’t know about this one, huh?”

“Hey, I’m the one who pays you.” Beckett retorted.

All Maria did was smile, with a twinkle in her eyes and turn up the radio. Tonight, Tonight, by Hot Chelle Rae was playing. Beckett relaxed visibly, and started to sing along.

Just don’t stop let’s keep the beat pumpin’
Keep the beat up, lets drop the beat down
It’s my party dance if I want to
We can get crazy let it all out

Maria pulled up at the front step at Kaylee’s house. Nah, more like her mansion.

Beckett glanced at his watch. Ah…eight fifteen. Perfect.

Its you and me and were runnin this town
And its me and you and were shakin the ground
And ain’t nobody gonna tell us to go cause this is our show

“Beckett!” a high pitched voice squealed as he got out of the limo, “You came!” The voice belonged to Kaylee O’Keefe, a ditzy blond girl wearing a tiny dress. Kaylee pranced on over to Beckett, somehow managing to stay upright on her stiletto heels. She flung her arms around him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Beckett grinned. Maybe it was time for a new girlfriend anyways.

Everybody
Woah, come on, ohh, all you animals
Woah, let me hear you now, ohh

“Hey, partyboy! You made it!” Zephaniah called over the thunderous music. Beckett grinned and was about to respond, when there was a deafening knock on the door. BANG-BANG-BANG! Instantly, the music faded. The guests froze, getting ready to bolt if it was the police. Everyone was silent, except for the faint murmurs that rippled through the crowd.

“Beckett Fowl! Where are you, young man?” the mysterious knocker screeched. The door flung open…

Tonight tonight there’s a party on the rooftop top of the world
Tonight tonight and were dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign
I don’t know if I’ll make it but watch how good I’ll fake it
Its all right, all right, tonight, tonight
Its all right, all right, tonight, tonight
Yeah its all right, all right, tonight, tonight

…and in stepped a white-haired lady, who appeared harmless. That is, until you caught a glimpse of her eyes, which were glaring intensely and radiating fury, the way only a mother could. Yes, it was sixty-nine year old Angeline Fowl.

She marched furiously over to Beckett. As she grabbed his arm and yanked him over to the door, she hissed, “You were grounded. What the [expletive deleted] are you doing here? I told you, no more parties until you GET A JOB. And a life. You are in BIG trouble.”

“But Ma…” Beckett whined. He was way too old to be grounded! And getting busted by his ma? That was a whole new definition of embarrasing.

“But nothing. You’re coming with me.

Beckett cast a helpless glance backwards. It was no use.

Someone in the back chortled nervously. “Busted!”

Just don’t stop lets keep the beat pumpin’
Keep the beat up, lets drop the beat down
Its my party dance if I want to
We can get crazy let it all out

After being tossed into a taxi, driven home and lectured for an hour, Beckett was finally banished to his room. An hour later, his cell phone pinged. Beckett glanced over at it. Huh. Zephaniah had sent him a video.

He clicked play. The grainy video was taken right after he left. The music pounding in the background seemed lifeless and dull, and a steady stream of people trickled out the door. It seemed that Beckett getting busted had been the highlight of the party.

“Wish you were here, man! This party sucks.” Zephaniah muttered as the video ended abruptly.

Beckett fell back onto the bed, as music from his iPod blasted into his ears. He sighed. Hey, there’s always going to be another party. After all, he was Beckett Fowl, partyboy.

Just don’t stop lets keep the beat pumpin’
Keep the beat up, lets drop the beat down
Its my party dance if I want to
We can get crazy let it all out

  7. Nice and cute. I wouldn’t’ve thought of using Pretty Girl Rock, but I’ve actually never heard the song. Just my tone-deaf friend singing it. She makes it sound a whole lot worse XD.

I liked the way you made their characters and how you incorporated the song in it.

Thanks! Yeah…my science teacher showed the song to our class one day, and it was stuck in my head for the entire day, so that’s kinda why I used it XD
