Shaadia was bored.
“I’m bored,”she said. “Five hours and nothing but watching the two of you arguing about some freaking science thing!”
“Quiet,” hissed Foaly. “And as I was saying, mud boy, your method of fixing this thing is wrong. The blue wire should NOT bend like that! It’s just dumb! And the green one is supposed to go over, not under it! Don’t tell me the great Artemis Fowl can’t even fix a freaking TV!”
Artemis scowled, then pressed the power switch. The screen flickered to life. “Is it still broken, pony boy?”
The centaur snorted. “Beginner’s luck.”
“Shut up, please. Let Shaadia watch her damn wrestling thing. She won’t have the time to annoy us.”
Shaadia smiled, satisfied. And suddenly, her face was nearly touching the screen. “Awesome…”murmured the human.
Once he was certain she wasn’t listening, Artemis turned to Foaly. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, Foaly, but I need your help.”
“Wow looks like there’s something Arty doesn’t know!” Foaly grinned smugly.” Don’t worry, Artemis, I’ll do anything for a friend.”
Artemis breathed deeply. This was going to be tough. “You know what I need, Foaly.I want her back.”
“Interesting,” mused Foaly.
“Don’t act like you don’t already know, Foaly.”
“I can already guess what you’re thinking, Fowl. But face it, you simply can’t fight this war.”
“That is exactly where I need your help.”
Foaly frowned. ‘No can do, Arty. You’re a Fowl, for Frond’s sake! You can’t risk your neck just for the sake of a girl. I know it’s Holly, but you still can’t. She’ll probably get mad at you for doing it, and anyway you still have time.”
“She could die out there, Foaly.”
“You won’t really make a difference.”
“I think he will,” said Shaadia, suddenly. She noticed them stare at her. “An old episode was going,” she apologized, then : “If she likes Loken, Arty, you’ve got to be like that. Trash talk a bit. Look dangerous. Wear some cool looking armor or something. And keep cracking jokes about Zidan. See what I mean?”
“The mud girl is right,” said Foaly, smirking. “I can’t wait to see the new you.”
