Chapter One:

Ops Booth 

It was Christmas day. Root was fuming.

“I can’t believe I lost Holly to a human!” he screamed.

“C-calm down, Commander,” Foaly was actually scared. “Fowl won’t stand a chance against LEP weaponry–”

“And he most certainly mustn’t!”

 

Fowl Manor

Holly quickly picked up a remote control she had required from Root. She could feel the revenge-plotting bubbling like acid in her stomach. He wanted revenge. On Artemis. She began having a flashback of when she had recieved the remote control.

“Holly,” Root said, “if you are ever in a situation where the LEP confuses you as a enemy, press the button on this remote control. It will turn off all LEP weaponry. Even the old Softnose lasers, if there are any left. Only use it in a emergency. This can even blow up the LEP’s building.”

“I will only use it in a emergency, Commander,” Holly said, thinking that Root must like her, because he wouldn’t give this to any other LEP officer except Holly. Even then, maybe all it was was that Root trusted Holly the most.

Holly pulled out of her flashback.

“Hopefully this works,” she whispered. “I’m sorry, Julius, I have to use your own invention against you.”

And she pressed the big red button that said DO NOT PRESS; the only button on it.

Ops Booth

The power suddenly turned off.

“Foaly, you and your stupid inventions!” Root raged. “What’s going on?”

“I don’t know,” Foaly gasped out the words. “See? The power’s off outside, too.”

“Oh great.”

Suddenly a surge of electricity came from the floor. Foaly and Root jumped onto things above the ground as quickly as they could; all they got were singed shoes.

“The idiots flipped the wrong power switch to get the power back on!” Foaly yelled. “They put electricity in the Operations Booth’s floor!”

“D’Arvit,” swore Root.

Fowl Manor

Holly sighed, putting the remote control back down. She looked out the window.

A knock on the door pulled her back to her senses.

Artemis came in, holding something behind his back.

“I thought this would be the opportune time,” he said a bit nervously. He went down on one knee and held out a ring box.

“Holly Short, will you marry me?”

Holly’s eyes widened. “Yes, Artemis. Yes. Yes, I will marry you!”
