Artemis Fowl the Second paced the hallway, worried about the result. Will his father survive? His chances were slim, in spite of Holly’s healing. “Can you please stop looming over me, Butler?” he said, extremely irritated by the Eurasian manservant.

“You know why.” he replied. “If in case there is a sniper, I am providing the best cover that is available.”

Artemis was about to come up with some theory when the door opened. His traces of annoyance vanished when the door opened to his father’s room. “How is he?” he demanded. “Will he live?”

The doctor shook his head. “He has already…….”

Artemis knew what happened. “Butler, can we please drive back to Fowl Manor?”

“Wait.” the doctor said, shoving a piece of paper in Artemis’s hand. “Take this before you leave.”

Artemis groaned.”Not another medical bill.”

“No. Just a letter.”

Fowl Manor

Holly buzzed into the visible spectrum. “All right, Artemis. What’s wrong?”

Artemis cradled his head on the oak table. “He died, Holly. He just died.”

Holly dropped down to five feet. “You’re kidding.”

“I”M NOT!”

“No need to get touchy.” she said.

“Touchy? Oh, I’m touchy? You can be sensitive when your father dies!” the Irish boy snapped.

“Did he give you anything? I know it was a note.”

“Yes.” he admitted. “I haven’t read it yet.”

He opened the slip of crumpled paper. Nine words were scrawled on the piece of paper. The words were: Go to Tokyo. You have a twin sister there.

Tokyo, Japan.

Athena Fowl lived in Tokyo, Japan. She was in contact with the Lower Elements Police since age one, when she was found in Tara’s shuttle port. They had decided to raise her, but when they found out she was human, it was too late to mind-wipe her. Then she got into Recon, which most of the People weren’t too happy about until the Fowl affair. She had managed to invent a vanishing gold mixture, and have it reappear in the Operations booth.

The small fairy communicator rang. She placed the tiny phone to her ear. “This is Athena Fowl.”

“Ena,” Foaly’s voice buzzed through. She winced.

“Don’t scream. It’s bad enough having to listen to static without a person going on right in your ear!”

“Sorry. Anyway, we have another assignment for you.”

Athena’s heart leaped. She hadn’t gotten an assignment in ages. “Yes, Foaly, what is it?”

Foaly chuckled. “You must be getting bored, Ena.” Ena was Foaly’s nickname for Athena.

“You kidding? I fell from perps to writing essays in a day!”

Foaly whistled.”Some big fall.”

“And?”

“You’ll be working with a partner. And it’s a boy.”

“You expect me to work with a boy? Just how girly do you think I am?”

“Julius wants you to, what, ‘interact with people your age.’”

”DON’T CALL ME JULIUS!!!!” Root hollered.

“See you.” Foaly said hurriedly, switching off the connection.

Washington Hotel, Shinjuku District, Tokyo, Japan

Artemis Fowl looked distastefully at the vending machines in the lobby. “How am I supposed to be expected to drink all this sugary drinks?” he complained.

Butler didn’t say anything. “Let’s go.” he said. “We’ll want to find your sister quickly.”

Something materialized on the seat next to Artemis in the car. He glanced at the LEP officer. “Hello, Holly.” he said evenly.

Holly smiled, punching the Irish boy playfully on the shoulder. “I’m here to tell you that you’ll be having a new job.”

“Yes?”

“And you’ll be working with a girl.”

“A girl? Are you serious?” Artemis slumped on the seat.

“I’m serious. I think you’ll be meeting at….Shinjuku station.” Holly vibrated out of the visible spectrum. “See you.”

Shibuya district, Tokyo, Japan

“Look, Chiya, maybe you should buy this shirt!” Athena laughed, shoving the shirt towards her friend.

“Well I think you should just make me one.” her friend replied.

To anyone it would have seemed like common talk for the average girls, but in truth her friend Chiya[ who was unusually short] was Corporal Lili Frond.

“We should go.” Lili said.

“Maybe we should.” Athena agreed. She and Frond left quickly.

Shinjuku station, Shinjuku district, Tokyo, Japan.

Athena waited impatiently in front of the subway station after convincing a man that she was not looking for her parents. It really wasn’t nice when you were a thirteen year old genius and people thought you were still a ‘child’. Honestly.

A huge looming man made the crowd part. A pale boy accompanied him. “Is he the person?” Athena asked.

Foaly said,”Yes. At least the boy is.”

“And the man?”

“I think you would want to find out yourself. You’re a detective, aren’t you.”

“One that’s underpaid.” she retorted.

The pair approached her.

“Can we go somewhere to talk?” the pale youth said. Her darker skin made a huge difference compared to her partner’s.

Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan

“Nice place.” Butler observed. The Japanese-style home was in contrast to her neighboring Western mansions.

“It’s the only place in this district that has a chute to the Lower Elements.” she said, unlocking the door.

They entered the room. It was dark and no form of security was to be found. Not even one tin can. “Wow.” Artemis said sarcastically. “Great security.”

 She smiled. “Just wait.”

They entered the next room. Artemis reached a hand out for the lights, and a dozen swords fell from a trapdoor from the ceiling. ” I told you I had some tricks.” she said.

She moved sideways away from a patch of floor. “Spikes.” she explained.

“Do you have anywhere that isn’t rigged?” Butler asked.

She knelt down on a panel, typing in a rapid code. Artemis did not have a clue what it was. Something that did not happen everyday.

The floor opened, the boards drawing back. “There.” she said with a hint of satisfaction.

She descended, leaving Artemis and Butler. “I would come down now if I were you.” she called up. “It’s going to close in thirty seconds.”

They entered a dojo, complete with katanas on the walls. She opened another panel to reveal guns, then another with medieval weaponry. “There are perks for law enforcement.”

“You’re a cop?”

“Only for the LEP. Aboveground, I’m a detective. Couple years ago I had you involved in a lot of my cases. Butler appeared more frequently than you.” Butler squirmed. It wasn’t like him. “And now underground.”

OPS booth, the Lower Elements

Athena’s hands flew over the keyboard. “When was the perp last seen?”

Foaly worked on another screen. “New York City, apparently.”

“The perp’s profile?”

“Emerald Koboi. Sister to Opal Koboi. She’s an inventor too.”

“Inventor?” Artemis inquired.

Holly answered.”Your partner here…”

“Twin.” Foaly corrected. Artemis stopped pacing. “What?”

“She’s your twin.”

“You’re kidding.”

“No he’s not.” Athena said, focusing a small red dot. “Our father told me when I was ten.”

Artemis glared at her. “If you were my twin, then I would see you in Fowl Manor. Why were you in Tokyo?”

“Not now.” Holly said. “We need to get you geared up.”

Overseas, Fowl Lear jet

While Butler was piloting the Lear jet, Holly was handing out equipment to Artemis and Athena. “This pair of sunglasses are just like the ones in the LEP helmet.” she explained. “And this is a garrote-wire yo-yo. The weight and magnets on that thing can attach to anything you want it to. Then there are the wrist-watch guns…”

New York City

Athena navigated the bustling city with the ability of a person who had lived here. “You’ve been here?” Artemis asked. These questions seemed more numerous.

“I graduated from Colombia.”  she said.

“And anywhere else?”

“All the Ivy Leagues by ten, then some other colleges by eleven.” she replied. “Hurry up; we’ve got a pixie to track.”

Athena lol Greek goddess of wisdom right???

  2. shanette Says:

Yeah it should be X). Heh. The pace seemed pretty fast, but the descriptions of the japanese places were nice. And Artemis seems a teeny tiny OOC. Just my opinion. Other than that I think it’s fine.

  3. shanette Says:

Hmmm, I also wondered. Why wouldn’t Artemis’ dad tell him that he had a twin sister?
