Butler descended the tunnel and grabbed Holly by the scruff of the neck, dragging the fear-paralysed elf out of the water. She was coughing up water and phlegm, but the burly manservant slung her metre-tall figure over one vast shoulder. Behind him, he heard a second explosion as LEP-centurion001 fired and took another chunk out of the wall. He emerged from the tunnel, literally threw Holly onto the back seat and got into the driver’s seat of the luxury Bentley. He floored it, the sudden acceleration knocking the wind out of Artemis. He saved his work, shut down the laptop and slid it into a custom-made, foam-inlaid slot beneath the seat. Then he turned to Holly.

She was still spluttering but had managed to get upright and was gulping down huge breaths. Artemis patted her gently on the shoulder, unsure of what else to do. She eventually calmed down and put a seatbelt on.

“Holly. You look tired.”

“Gee, you think, muddy?” she retorted sharply. “I’ve just been chased down a maze of underground tunnels by a cyborg, and to add to that you’ve abducted me again!”

“Actually, I believe that Butler saved your life. Yet again. You owe him - well, we both owe him our lives many times over.”

The slender elf nodded.

“You’re right. I’ll have to fill you in.”

She told him everything; Foaly’s reclusive behaviour, the cyborgised remains of Corporal Szorm, and finally the chase. Artemis sat, quietly analysing the events recounted to him. After five painstaking minutes, he spoke.

“I think that the best course of action would be for you to return to the Lower Elements and tell them what Foaly has created. However, they would not believe you without proof. So we must gather some. Butler, I believe it is time to call an old friend.”

The bodyguard nodded; he knew who. Holly was mystified, and pressed the poitn all of the way to Fowl Manor, up the drive and into the house.

“Come ooonnn, Artemis! Don’t be mean. Tell me who!”

“You will find out in due time” he said, flashing a vampire smile.

Meanwhile, down in the Lower Elements, Foaly was frantically trying to track down LEP-centurion001. He was alone; since he had kept the whole operation secret, the only other person who had known about it was Vinyaya herself. He had called her in.

“Foaly, what’s going on?” she demanded.

“We lost him in the tunnels” he told her.

“WHAT? You know how vital he is to me. To us, I mean. The LEP, that is.”

Foaly nodded; he did know. For Corporal Szorm was in fact Vinyaya’s younger brother, using an assumed name because he did not want people to know about their relationship, in case she was accused of favouritism.

“He’s shorted out the seeker-sleeper. We’ll have to track him down in the…” he shuddered “old-fashioned way. Using field smarts.”

Vinyaya nodded.

“I’ll find him. Where ever my brother goes, there’s bound to be trouble…”

This was really good, very well written, you could be an author some day! A few times you misspelt words or just made typing errors but apart from that really good story!
