(From Artemis POV)

I woke up this morning feeling slightly different. Something was wrong. As I sat up in my bed, I noticed something immediately. I wasn’t in my room. I was in my parent’s room. It was slightly changed around from what I can recall. There was a desk against the wall on my right, and a cabinet beside that. There was a lounge towards my left, and a Television above the fireplace. The biggest difference, was that there was a dresser on the other side with a mirror upon it, and another dresser beside that. I saw a small bedside table beside my left, from the large poster bed, and there was a photo frame upon it. Why was I in my parents room, had there been redecorating plans? I stood up, scratching my head, and noticed that I was extremely tall. I started to panic, and ran into the bathroom. I was in my parents room. When I reached the bathroom, I got quite an unexpected surprise. I was an adult. I had a soft beard coming down under my chin. I must have shaved two days ago considering the bristles. My hair was the same, and I still looked the same, albeit, having more grown up features. I was absolutely horrified. I splashed some water on my face to see if this was a dream. I looked up again and gazed in the mirror. No, I was definitely an adult. I stood back from the mirror and thought. What on earth is going on? Why am I suddenly an Adult? What made me grow up over night? I was still thinking this, as I headed back into my parent’s room, which seemed to be my room. At least my suits were in the closet by the desk. I placed one on and decided to try and stay calm. Another thought hit me. Where’s Butler? I called his number over the walkie-talkies.

‘Butler?’ I asked into the mouth piece.

‘Artemis, finally you’re up’ Butler answered me. I was worried, he sounded much older, but then again, I was an adult.

‘Butler, something has gone terribly wrong’

Butler sounded his usual soldier like way, ‘What is it sir?’

‘I woke up this morning, and I have become an Adult! I do not know how this has occurred!’

Butler laughed gently.

‘Sir, are feeling all right?’

I didn’t understand, why was he laughing?

‘Butler, I have miraculously grown up over night, doesn’t that alarm you?’

Butler chuckled, ‘Sir, I think you need to get some more sleep, instead of working on so many files for your patients’

I raised an eyebrow to myself, ‘Patients?’

‘Yes sir, you’re psychology patients. Remember?’

I Smiled. Psychology, I had a profession. Well, I should at least explore what had happened in my house since I had, grown up, I just needed to know something.

‘Yes, of course, my apologies Butler. No need for me to cause you any disruption. And Butler? How old was I again?’

Butler laughed again, ‘Sir, you’re 23, youngest psychology doctor in the world!’

I smiled. Of course I was. I was, After all, Artemis Fowl the II.

‘Thank you Butler, sorry about that’

‘Of course sir.’

I hung up the call. I was now quite lost in what was happening. So far, all I had was that I was 23, a Psychologist, best at my age, and I was still in Fowl Manor, living in my Parent’s room. Where on earth did my parents go? Where was Butler? I decided to have some breakfast, then go on the computer, maybe I had files and other documents that could help me. I walked down stairs, the banister same as always, but then I glanced at the hallway towards the front room, I saw A portrait, one I hadn’t seen. It was a portrait of my mother and father. What had happened to them? My heart started to speed up, this could not be a good sign. I tried breathing deeply, then turned around, making sure everything else was still as I remembered. I walked through another hall, and turned to go into the kitchen, where delicious aromas rose into the air. I felt calm again. Butler. I walked into the kitchen, only to see a woman. She had dark brunette hair, tied up in a bun, her fringe showing, as she had a silk robe on, moving around the kitchen.

‘Morning sweety’ She said. I knew that voice, it sounded familiar. I walked forward, frowning in confusion, when the lady turned around, smiling at me. I knew who she was, thank goodness she was here. It was Livia.

‘Morning honey’ I answered, my heart beating steadily in my chest. She was beautiful, just as I remember her from when I was young. Which was yesterday. She walked up to me, stroked my hair with her warm, gentle hands, and kissed me. I was overcome with love again, and smiled at her, as she looked concerned.

‘Are you all right Arty? Butler called and said you were a bit upset this morning’ she asked me. I laughed slightly, taking her hand, holding it to my cheek. She was so different, yet still the same Livia I fell in love with.

‘Arty?’ she laughed.

I looked at her again, ‘I’m sorry. I must have gone to bed late again last night. I just….miss you’ I say. Livia smiled, pulling me close and hugging me.

‘Sweety, everything’s okay. After our lives together before, I’m not surprised at anything. Do you want to tell me about it?’ She glanced up at me again. I smiled, that would probably help.

‘Yes, I think that would probably help.’

She smiles again, kissing my cheek, then she walks towards the kitchen again. I walk after her, buttoning up my jacket, and taking a seat at the kitchen bench. I was looking around. The kitchen had been slightly restyled. The window was bigger, and there was a lovely grey and black marble bench, instead of the old plain black marble. There was a curtain on the window, pulled back to let the lovely sun in, and the door out to the porch had been replaced with glass sliding doors. I turned around when Livia walked over again.

‘Here, some earl grey tea and toast with some shaved ham.’ she smiled. There was some tomato and on the ham as well, lightly sprinkled with pepper. Quite delicious. And the tea was the perfect temperature, not to hot, but not to cold.

‘Are you sure you’re okay honey?’ Livia asked me, smiling and stroking the hair out of my eyes. I placed the tea cup down.

‘Yes Livia, I’m fine, I just…’ I tried to find the right words as I sighed, taking her hands. I noticed something on her finger. Her ring finger. A small Emerald star on a gold ring, a smaller blue one the left and yellow on the right, and a smaller gold ring underneath that, with one emerald stone, and two diamonds either side. I smiled, they were something I remembered. From a dream I once had.

‘Were married. You’re my wife’ I mumbled happily. Livia chuckled lightly, the same laugh that used to melt my heart before.

‘Yes sweety, we’ve been married two years now’

I looked at her again.

‘What was the wedding like?’

Livia laughs again, looking at her ring, then looking at me again.

‘Sweety, why don’t you tell me what the hell has gotten into you this morning first?’

I smiled, take the tea once more, and smile.

‘You’re still the same as I remember. Inquisitive, gentle and loving, yet still able to have a fire inside. And also the mind of an FBI agent’ I laughed. Livia laughed along too, walking around the counter, standing beside me.

‘You’re scaring me honey’ she smiles. She has that look I still recall, that look of worry and fear in her eyes, the same look she had when we went to the Spiro needle, and when the Demon came.

I pulled her slightly closer.

‘Don’t worry, I’ll explain everything’

Then I kissed her again, and she kissed me.

‘I hope so.’ She glanced at the clock. ‘I called the office for you and said you’re having a sick day today, but I still have to go to work if I get a call.’ She smiles at me again.

‘Of course, thank you. Where do you work again?’

‘I work at the SVU department in Dublin Police Force’ She laughs again, and I see that she knows I don’t need reminding, that I really didn’t know. I stand up, and Livia leads me to the lounge room, which still looks the same, but it’s more ‘”Zen”. We have a large fountain, inside, near the front of the room, where the fireplace was, and the lounges are still the same. But there are several cushion on the floor, and blankets to sit upon. Almost Indian, mixed with modernisation.

‘Stay here, I’ll grab everyone else, and get changed while I’m at it’

I pull her hand as she leaves.

‘Wait… What else has happened?’ Livia turns fully around and kissed my cheek.

‘I’ll explain when I come back’

As Livia leaves, I decide to look around. The water fountain looks like a waterfall, cascading down rocks, into a pool, small shrubs growing on the rocks. There’s birds chirping outside, the window open to let the warm summer air inside. I take a deep breath. The air smells different from what I remember. Much…cleaner. I walk around the fountain, and notice a small circle pattern protruding from the rest of the stone that is a mantle piece. I press the small circle, and the fountain spins around and the fireplace comes out. That was quite shocking. I quickly change it again, and the fountain comes back. Perhaps I shouldn’t touch anything. Livia returns again, wearing, like she used to, a pair of jeans, a black t-shirt and her hair is still tied up into a bun. She walks in with Butler and Juliet.

‘Butler! Juliet! Good to see you!’ I smile walking up to them. Butler looks somewhat older, but he still looks younger. Obviously the fairy work.

‘Sir, how are you?’ Butler hugs me. I smile at him.

‘Still somewhat confused’ I confess. Juliet walks up to me and hugs me too.

‘How have you been Juliet?’

she smiles, ‘I’ve been good’

Livia smiles, then we all sit down.

‘Right so tell us what happened this morning Arty?’

I sigh.

‘This morning I woke up an Adult, but last night, I went to bed in my old room, as a fourteen year old child. I don’t understand why I woke up in my parents room, as an adult’

Livia looks like she’s thinking, just as she always used to do. Even Butler and Juliet look concerningly thoughtful.

‘Hmmm. Okay, so you have no idea what’s happened?’ Livia asks me.

‘No, I do not’ I say.

They all look at one another.

‘Well, Let’s start by telling you what’s happened to the world since 2008′ Livia smiles.

‘Please do.’ I smile hopeful.

‘ Since then, about four years ago, fairies have come to the surface, and we have coexisted with them peacefully, and we have our cities and they have theirs. We all live in populations together. The government got a new president, Miss Rebecca Michigan, and she was one of the green generation. With the help of the Fairy government, we managed to clear up the atmosphere, and we’ve even stopped killing trees, and burning fuels. All cars go on a cooled liquidation of Solar energy, Foaly’s invention.’ Livia smiled. ‘Even with that, everything is now renewable energy. We all have solar power panels, we collect wind power, Major companies use kinetic energy facilities, Hydro stations, and all those other things to delete the pollution. It’s finally a clean world. Shopping bags and other items like that are made of recyclable cloth, and there processors where there are dumps, and they reprocess everything to make it reusable. Nothing is wasted. Water has become more plentiful, so has food, starving countries now also helped with Fairy help, where they go to cloning booths, especially programmed to make food. Poverty and hunger is being wiped out. Medicine has grown, cancer is now curable, in time, and everything’s still the same. Not that much futuristic technology. Just the usual development of computers and other things like that’ Livia smiles.

I take all this in. Everything has changed. The world has become different, and Fairies live with us. This is amazing.

‘That’s incredible’ I agree with them.

Juliet smiles.

‘Now you need to know what’s happened in our lives. The Fowl’s.’

Butler nods.

‘Please, continue’ I lean back in my chair.

‘Well, let’s start with the fairies. Holly and Trouble got married, and they have a son, Harry Kelp, he’s nut brown like Holly, has Trouble’s blue eyes, and has Holly’s short hair with Troubles Black colour. He’s a strong and smart little boy. Loves policing, and loves getting in trouble’

We all laugh.

‘How old is he?’ I asked.

Juliet smiles, ‘ about seven’ .

‘Excellent, that’s brilliant’

‘Yes, and the LEP is still in business, with Root’s nephew Henry Oak is the new commander. He’s much nicer than Root in terms, still has the ability to blast though’ Butler explains.

‘I see, and Holly and Trouble, they work there?’

‘Yes, Holly is a Major, and Trouble is a Lieutenant’ Livia grins. ‘Holly helps me out with investigations sometimes, we even work together in some cases’

Butler nods, and leans forward from his lounge.

‘ Foaly and Cabaline are also married, and Foaly is the head of technicians at the White house, both for fairy and humans. All the departments work together now. I have also become the new teacher of The Butler academy, in Madame Ko’s place.’ Butler smiles successfully.

‘Congratulations my friend, that’s excellent!’ I give him a joyful expression.

‘And I have a husband, Rick, and we have a daughter, Joanne, and a son, Matthew. We live in the city, near the bay in a three story house’ Juliet smiles. I clap for her.

‘That’s wonderful news Juliet, congratulations to you and your husband. How old are your children?’

Juliet looks modest, ‘well Joanne is five, with long blonde hair like me, and green eyes like Ricks. She loves to wrestle, and she loves drawing. Matthew is seven, and he loves going on adventures, inside of course, and he always helps his little sister draw.’

‘How sweet’ I smiled. Livia was smiling beside me, as I hugged her close to me.

‘Yes, and Sam and Dean are away in U.S.A for a while, Dean owns a mechanic shop up in Lawrence now, and Sam went to Stanford Law school. Dean’s got a girlfriend named Carmen, and Sam is still looking for some love. Sam’s actually one of our solicitors and lawyers’ Livia laughed. I laughed also, that sounds about right for the boys.

‘And you? Us?’ I asked. Livia smiled again, like she was scared and excited.

‘Well, we’ve been married two years, I work at the S.V.U department, and I also do some artwork at home. I sold a series of books I wrote when I was fourteen. We don’t have any kids. You, sweety, are the most renowned Psychologist, both for you ingenuity, and because your the youngest professional ever. We are one of the most richest families in Ireland. Top five, we’re number three.’ Livia smiles at me happily. I nod and smile.

‘Is that everything so far?’

‘Yes, that’s about it. Oh, and we’re invited to the Kelps family ball. All their friends and colleague are going to get together for…well…a get together’ Livia smiles.

‘That’s brilliant. I can’t believe everything is like a dream come true’ I smile, shaking my head. Livia looks slightly shocked, and thinks. Her look changes suddenly.

‘Umm, Arty? There’s something I didn’t tell you’ Livia looks guilty. Some things pop into my head for what it might be, but I listen to her.

‘What is it Livy?’

She smiles at her name, then her eyes turn glassy, and she looks at me, sniffling.

‘Honey, it’s about your father’

My heart speeds up. She’s going to cry, this can’t be good.

‘What is it? What happened?’

Livia sniffles again, and she drops a tear from her eye.

‘Sweety, your father died last year.’

My heart feels like it has completely stopped. My father? Dead? No, it can’t be. No.

‘How…what….why?’ I managed to stutter, my own eyes feeling hot. Livia swallows, trying to smile. Obviously my parents got close to us, Livia also crying.

‘He died from a heart attack honey, he had a stroke in hospital.’

I feel a tear run down my cheek, my eyes feel like they are on fire, and my throat has a huge lump in it.

‘No. No. What about my Mother?’ I ask, fearing the worst. Livia moves closer, rubbing my shoulder.

‘She’s alive hunny, she lives in Summerville, a small village for the old folk, near the bay. She loves it there’

I feel the weight of relief for that in my chest, but I still feel that I need to grieve for my father.

‘Last year?’

Livia nods, and she hugs me.

‘I’m so sorry hunny’ she says. I decide to keep it in, very unhealthy medically, but there’s no need to cry yet. I can always let it out later, though the pain of loss is still heavy on my heart.

‘It’s all right, it wasn’t your fault, or anyone’s’ I smile looking at Livia again. I wipe one of her tears away, and then stand up.

‘Is that everything I need to know?’

They all nod.

‘Yeah, at the moment. ‘ Livia smiles again. We move off, and Livia shows me the house, and she shows me some pictures we have.

‘Incredible’ I mumble at one stage.

I go into my room, to see it’s now a sitting room, just a lounge, some books at the wall, and the balcony widened, sliding doors in place, open. It’s beautiful I find some more pictures, and I find some old ones I remember. There’s one of Livia and I at our first date on the boat by the bay. Livia walks in, her hands on my shoulder, as she looks over my shoulder.

‘I remember that. That was a fantastical night’ she whispers. I place the picture down, and turn to Livia. She smiles at me, like she used to.

‘I’m sorry you don’t remember everything that’s happened honey, and I’m sorry that I had to drop that bombshell earlier’ she looks apologetically out towards the bay, the wind playing in her hair. She still has that beauty in her, that inner magic to her. I take her hand, as she looks at me, and pull her close to me again.

‘I love you so much honey’ I say to her. She smiles, placing her hands on my chest.

‘I love you too sweety. Always have, always will’ she smiles. I kiss her again, and I feel the moment envelop me, as it did every other time.

‘Did we stay together all those years?’ I ask after we break apart.

‘Well…after three weeks when you went into Limbo with the Demons. After that, about three months later, you thought we should take a break, and you got with Minerva. We got together again when you told Minerva “it just wasn’t right”, and that was six months later. We’ve stayed together ever since.’ she explains, and I feel her distaste for Minerva as she speaks her name, obviously sour about that.

‘Well, I’m sorry about that, even though I don’t remember that’ I smile at her, and she smiles back . She checks her watch.

‘Oh no, Honey, we gotta get ready for that ball!’ she says.

‘What? What time is it?’

‘It’s five O’clock sweety, but as a women, it might take me a while to get ready before six’ Livia laughs. I smile, then give her another kiss on the cheek before she moves out of the room to get changed. I go onto the balcony, looking at the horizon, and all around the Manor grounds. It greener, and there are so many more trees everywhere. It really has become a clean world. The sun is nearly setting in the distance, and I feel the summer breeze playing about me. I can’t wait to see Holly and Trouble. I hope to see all my friends again. I can see fairies zipping about, and even some people. Obviously the wings. It’s marvellous. Is this really all a dream? Or was my life before a long dream? How can it be? I don’t remember anything from my adult life, and I don’t recall not having done what I did when I was 14. I need to stop asking myself all these difficult questions, but I can’t escape the feeling this isn’t meant to be. Something still doesn’t feel right, and I need to figure out what.

I turn around and look back inside. I decide to lock the door, then I go and walk back towards my room, or what was my parents room, and walk in. Livia is in a beautiful green dress, golden vines around her dress. It’s strapless too. Her hair is straightened and down.

‘Hi honey, what do you think, hair up, or down?’ Livia turns around, gathering her hair up, and letting it fall down again.

‘Well, it might annoy you during the evening, why don’t you tie it up?’ I suggest. Livia does some calculations, smiles at me, then turns around again to tie her hair up in a bun, loose locks falling out. She redoes her fringe so it flops perfectly sideways. She then stands up, and walks over towards the mirror, turning to check herself, then smiles at me.

‘What do you think? Is it ok?’ She poses humorously and laughs. I chuckle and smile at her in agreeance.

‘You look stunning as always’ I say to her. She smiles, and walks towards me again.

‘And you honey, are you getting into another suit, or is this what you’re going in?’ She tightens my tie. I smugly smile, and look around me.

‘I was thinking of wearing this, yes’

Livia smiles at me, pulling me with my tie and kissing me again. She looks at me again after we kiss momentarily.

‘Still the same Arty that I love and fell in love with. Style, charm and all’ she smiles again. I hug her and she sighs.

‘And you still have that wonderful Armani smell, and that same strong hug’

There’s a beep outside, and Juliet shouting from downstairs.

‘Liv! Arty! Come on, the party’s started!’ Juliet seems to laugh at the same time as shouting. Livia glances at her watch, and goes into her super hero mode she did when she was younger. She grabs her Bag, some make up, grabs my hand, as we race down the stairs, she manages to switch every light off, and switch on the security with the pin, and make it into the Limo in under five minutes. We sit in the back of the limo, panting, and Livia going “Wooohoo! Still got it!”

‘Well, now we head to the Kelp’s?’

‘Yep, and let the party begin’ Juliet and Livia high fived. They were still close, just like we they were as I recall them at fourteen.

‘So is this a get together or a party?’ I ask them.

‘Oh, it’s a get together, crossed with a party. Us girls, we love to party and have a karaoke. So when the night gets late, Holly will kick out the mike and we’ll crank it up’ Juliet and Livia laugh and dance about. There’s a man sitting next to Juliet, smiling at her. Juliet stops and kisses him.

‘Oh, Artemis, sorry, this is Rick, my husband…don’t worry, I explained what happened to him’

Rick laughs, and stretches his hand out, as I shake it.

‘Pleasure to meet you Rick’

‘Pleasure’s all mine’ He said with a strong manly accent. Livia and Juliet began to giggle, and they started to talk about recipes, and they began laughing about gossip, as Rick and I start to discuss the new world.

‘So Melanie was actually Jack’s mistress, She wasn’t a friend at all?!’ Livia gasped. Juliet nodded, a smug smile on her lips, she leant forward.

‘And you know what else? She’s pregnant too’

Livia gasped again.

‘O.M.G! How can he do that to poor faithful Rosie? After all she’s done for that slime bag!’ They both laughed.

‘Umm, Who are these people?’ I asked them, both Rick and I stopping our discussion about new inventions to listen to the girls laugh.

‘Oh, Jack’s a guy who knows Juliet’s friend Maria. She told us about Jack having an affair’ Livia explains.

‘I see, and has She told Rosie about this affair?’ Rick asked them now. Juliet made a noise of “pff” and waved her hand.

‘She’ll tell Rosie all right, straight after Jack freakin’ knocks her lights out. He knows she knows, so he’ll know if Rosie questions.’

I frowned, ‘ Isn’t that unsafe? She should get a restraining order against him, he sounds…murderous’

Livia smiles at me in a mischievous way.

‘He won’t do anything, he knows that forensics and the cops will be right on him. He’s not an idiot. But Rosie will find out, she’s smart.’

‘Wait, this isn’t my old friend Jack is it?’ I quickly asked.

Livia laughed reassuringly, ‘No, god no, he’s married to a lady named Libby and lives in Florida’

‘Ahh, excellent then’

After a few more minutes of talking, and laughing, we arrived in Dublin’s bay area, at a beautiful smaller mansion like residence, with a large gravel driveway coming around to the doorway, it was at least two stories, and a pale cream colour.

‘Goodness, this is were the Kelp’s live?’ I asked astounded. Livia comes out of the car beside me.

‘Yep, this is their house.’

A little boy ran outside, he had nut brown skin, a nice suit on, and he also had pointed ears. Harry Kelp. He ran straight towards Livia, and she hugged him, picking him up.

‘Livy!’ he laughed, hugging Livia.

‘Hey Captain! Are mummy and daddy home?’ Livia asks him. He nods furiously and smiles at me.

‘Uncle Arty!’ he laughs. Livia turns so she’s facing me.

‘We’re his godparents’ she whispers, winking. She let’s Harry down, and he smiled, acting like a little gentlemen.

‘Follow me ladies and gentlemen’ he smiles, as we follow behind him. Holly and Kelp are at the door, welcoming everyone inside.

‘Holly! Trouble!’ Livia shouted. Holly waved excitedly, and she came out and hugged Livia, as they laughed.

‘Hey girl, haven’t seen you in a while, we need to catch up soon! Hey Artemis, how have you been?’ She smiles at me. Livia takes Holly aside and explains the situation to her. Holly nods.

‘Sorry Artemis. How are you?’ She smiles again.

‘I’m quite well Holly, and congratulations on everything’ I say as we hug.

‘Thanks Artemis. You too. Please, come inside’ She smiles, motioning into the house. She’s wearing a lovely midnight blue dress, with a sash across the middle, her hair short, and more shaped round, around her head to her neck, and Trouble is wearing a suit, his locks gelled back.

‘Hey Artemis, good to see you’ He shakes my hand warmly, as he greets Juliet, Rick, Livia and I.

Holly whispered what Livia told her a few minutes ago to him.

‘ really? Well, sorry to hear that Artemis. You really don’t remember?’ Trouble asks me.

‘Yes, unfortunately. I hear everything’s gone fine though’ I agree as we all head towards their lounge room.

‘Yes, it’s been all right, with civilisations and all’ he laughs gently. We walk into the lounge, which has lovely white drapes across the roof, with lights handing upon them, and there’s a small banquet table at the far end, near the three double sliding doors to the outside porch, which is also lit up nicely, to show the garden and the fountain.

‘Wow, you have a lovely house’ I compliment the couple. Livia takes my hand.

‘I’ll stay close Honey, you might not know some of these people’

We all head into the throng of happy people and fairies, talking and enjoying the light refreshments.

‘So Arty, how are you feeling?’ Livia smiles at me.

‘I feel great, still odd amongst all these faces that I can’t recall, but I’m great’ I smile at her.

‘That’s good honey.’ she pauses, as we walk along the room. ‘Sweety, what’s wrong?’ she asks me. I have stopped, becuase there’s a girl, on the other side of the room, near the banquet table, wearing a tattered dress, her hair curled and down, and she’s watching me, almost giving me an evil glare. I slip from Livia’s grip, which I’m sure she’s concerned about behind me, and I head forward, towards the girl, when a man walks before me, as I excuse myself for rudely bumping into him, and look up to head to the girl, when I notice she’s gone. Just, vanished. How can this be? I turn around, confused, to see Livia looking worried, and Holly walking to her side. I look around again, but the mysterious girl is gone. I start to walk back towards Livia, and she walks to me.

‘Honey, what’s wrong, what just happened?’ she asks me, looking very worried for me.

‘I’m sorry, I thought it was somene I knew…’ I lie. I can’t tell them about this girl. I knew there was something wrong, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Something’s happening, somethings not right. If I was fourteen, with Livia, Sam and Dean, what would we do? Investigate, there must be something Supernatural going on here.

‘ Livia, I was wondering, do we still have those books, maps and other fact sheets in the second study downstairs from you and your brothers hunts?’ I ask Livia when we’re grabbing a drink of Champagne. Livia looks puzzled, but I must be careful not to alarm her. If I do that, then this plan could go very wrong. I know Livia is smart, she’ll be very suspicious.

‘Hunts, what hunts?’ she raises an eyebrow. Quick, an excuse, I need an excuse. I can’t believe she doesn’t remember. This is awful.

‘ I’m sorry dear, I must be slightly deluded. I’m still somewhat slow from this morning’ I shrug. She seems convinced, and smiles. At about seven thirty, we walk into the dining room to have dinner. Then, at nine, we all head home. I dare to add though, Livia and Juliet enjoyed themselves quite a lot, having the karaeoke come to life. When we finally arrived home, we turned off the alarm, and got changed into normal clothes. Well, Livia did, I always wear a suit. To our surprise, and to Livia delight, Sam and Dean were there. We all went inside for a cup of coffee, and for a chat.

‘So you really don’t remember anything Artemis?’ Dean asks me. Sam laughs.

‘No, I’m sorry, I don’t. Though I congatulate you on all your successess’ I say to them. We continued talking, laughing, and at about ten, they waved goodbye and left.

I walk into our room, and I turn on the television. I need to wind down slightly, after all, I am in a weird situation. Livia walks in, slowly, and gracefully gliding towards me, sitting next to me.

‘Sweety, are you sure everything’s ok?’ She strokes my hair. I look at her, those Alchemy eyes ensnaring me, making me feel all at peace.

‘Yes, I’m fine, there’s nothing to worry about’ I kiss her head.

She smiles weakly, ‘What was that at the Kelp’s?’

She’s suspicious.

‘Nothing dear, I thought it was someone I used to know, I was mistaken’

She looks at the T.V, then looks at me again, her eyes searching me.

‘Well honey, whatever’s gotten into you, I want you to be careful.’ She leans close and whispers, ‘ I’ll grab some caviar on the way home’ she winks. I smile, then kiss her again. I kiss her neck and she laughs.

‘Honey please, I have to go to work’ she laughs standing up. I chuckle.

‘At this time of the evening, you have to work?’ I stand up and follow her to the wardrobe. She has her jacket on, with her badge in her pocket, grabbing her belt from the shelf and buckling it up, her gun dangling from her hip.

‘Just like the LEP. I’m married to a Police Officer. That is so….respectable’ I lean against the door, hands in my pocket. Livia smiles, turns to me and ties a scarf around her neck.

‘That’s right, and I can kick some butt while I’m at it. I’ll be home late, maybe around two, I’ll see. Call me if anything goes wrong, or if anything happens ok? There’s some left over’s in the fridge if you get hungry’ She kisses my cheek.

‘Of course Mother, I’ll be fine, I am married you know’ I tease her. She turns around, making a sarcastic laughing action, then she walks to go downstairs. I see her to the door, then she get’s into Dean’s car. She has his Chevy Impala?

‘You have Dean’s Impala?’ I ask her.

‘No, this is another one, Dean bought it at a friends auction for me’ she winks in the night, then she drives off to work. Alone. I head back upstairs and sit down on the lounge again. It really feels much more quiet. I watch some more of the discovery channel, grabbing a drink of Earl Grey, then I flick the channel to see CNN. I stop dead to what I see.

” And investigations are still out , Jon Spiro is still loose, and is still wanted for murder, Bank robbery, abduction of young, world renowned Artemis Fowl and His Wife Livia, who miraculously escaped all those years ago, Mafia connections and…”

I switched the channel again, shocked at what the images where on the channel before. Profile photo’s of youger I and Livia, and Spiro’s picture. Now, this time I’m on SBS.

“Criminal Prodigy Pixie, Opal Koboi is still missing, wanted for the murder of Julius Root, Attempted Murder of Major Holly Short of LEPrecon, Artemis Fowl, world famous Psychologist, his wife Livia, Special Victims Unit Detective, and the attempted early discovery of the fairy world to humans. She is described as armed and dangerous, and to be approached with caution.”I muted the T.V momentarily. Pictures of Opal in court and a photo of her flashing on the screen, along with police forces searching around. This couldn’t be, this couldn’t have happened.

I muted the T.V momentarily. Pictures of Opal in court and a photo of her flashing on the screen, along with police forces searching around. This couldn’t be, this couldn’t have happened.’No, I had Spiro framed and arrested, and we caught Koboi, a week late, but we caught her!’ I say to myself. This can’t be true. I switch the channel again.

“Today another girl was discovered out in Wisconsin state, the victim a young girl, of fourteen, who was dropped onto the floor after massive blood loss, from what appears to be an appendage through her abdominals, above her right hip. She is the tenth victim of the kind, having brunette hair, and Hazel or green eyes. The Killer seems to be searching for a certain person, killing the unfortunate girls who don’t match the discription of his personal target. Police were only able to find traces of Sulpher at the scene…”I turned the television off, just the dim light beside me on, as I raked my hand through my hair. This couldnt be right. Everything Livia, or all of us had killed was still loose. We stopped the Yellow Eyed Demon, Spiro is meant to be in jail! What on earth was going on?! This certainly wasn’t good. I had to check somehting else. I ran to my computer, and I looked up all different cases I knew Livia, Sam and Dean had worked on. Everything they had hunted. It all shows up on the web.

I turned the television off, just the dim light beside me on, as I raked my hand through my hair. It all shows up on the web.” Plane crash in Nazareth” , “Girl dies in pool mysteriously” , ” More victims filed for strange death; Hearts ripped out of bodies” all those people they had saved, all those creatures they had killed, never happened. This wasn’t good. I look up from wiping my face with stress, when I felt a presence. I turn sideways to see a figure move past me towards my wardrobe. I stand up, cautiously walking towards the Wardrobe. I open it, two corpses hanging there. I let out a scared scream, then when I’m calm I stare at the figues. Why the hell are there two dead women in my closet?!?!?! I turn around, and turn to the wardrobe again, and the two figures are gone. All right, this is way out of hand. Something is very, very wrong here. I decide to go to bed. Maybe all this will go away by morning. I chnged into my pyjamas, climbed into bed and went to sleep.

The next morning, I was still an adult, and still in the future. Livia is asleep next to me, looking very peaceful. I decide to get up, and check the time. Nearly ten in the morning. After cleaning myself up and getting changed, I go downstairs to have breakfast, then I think of what to do. I need to figure out what on earth is going on, those corpses that appeared in my closet, and that weird girl I saw. I go outside, and I see a Chrysler Starline waiting for me. Very classy. I go back inside and grab the car keys, then I drive off down to see my mother. I need to see her, at least before I figure this out. I drive past the country side, trees big, beautiful and lush, and the sprakling bay. I drive down into town, and I locate Summerville. I park my car, get out, and stand at the kerb. I look over to the entrance to SummerVille, and I see that girl again, other pedestrians simply walking past her, while she glared at me. What on earth was going on? I walk forward, walking towards her sceptically, when a car stops and blares its horn at me. I nearly got run over. I looke up at where I was walking, to see the girl was gone. What on earth? I apologise to the driver of the Alfa Romeo, and then walk into Summerville. I walk up to a brick building wiht a brass plaque “Reception” upon it, and head inside.

‘Excuse me,do you have the room number for Angeline Fowl?’ I asked walking towards the counter. The nurse looked up at me, from the phone, then looked through a folder.

‘Mrs. Fowl resides in number 14. Near the bay’ she smiles. I smile appreciatively, then head outside. I walks down the drive, and I find the small house with number fouteen,a lovely rose garden out the front garden. I walk towards the door, feeling nervous, and knock.

‘Mother? It’s me’ I say aloud. Theres a shuffling noise, and then the door opens. I smile at my mother, still looking quite young for her age, and still the same like she used to look like, excpet she was older of course.

‘Is that my Arty boy?’ she smiles. I walk inside as she leads me in, and she hugs me.

‘How are you Mother?’

She looks up at me, ‘I’m fine dear, Livia called me a few minutes ago and told me that you left without a word. Are you all right? What’s gotten into you?’ she strokes my cheek softly. Frankly, I was getting quite annoyed with everyone asking me “What’s gotten into you?”

‘I’m fine mother, just something I need to figure out.’

Mother seems to know, ‘Honey, you’re confused aren’t you. You’re lost, not sure where you are’

I was quite astounded at my mother when she said this, as she sat me down at her small kitchen table,in her lovely little white kitchen and lounge room.

‘Yes, how did you know?’

‘Sweety, I’m your mother I can tell these things. Have you spoken with your father lately?’

I looked down, ‘I was told he died last year’

Mother strokes my cheek again, making me look at her.

‘Yes, but that doesn’t mean he can’t listen to you. He’s at the Dublin Bay Cemetary, plot 23′ She smiles at me. I nod, and smile. I have a cup of tea with her, and some biscuits, before I leave.

I walk around the Dublin area, when I recieve a call. It’s now about three O’clock.

‘Honey, where are you?’ Livia’s voice sounds panicked when I answer the phone.

‘I’m in Dublin Bay area sweety, I’m fine. Just went to see Mother’

‘Arty darling, your scaring me. You just ran off, I thought something had happened to you’ she sounds like she’s sniffling.

‘Livia, are you crying?’

‘ I was Artemis, I’m scared for you. Peple are thinking that you’re going insane’

I look at the bay, and sigh, ‘I’m not insane, confused, yes, but not insane. Don’t cry sweety, it breaks my heart when you do’

Livia chuckles, ‘Come home soon sweety. I love you’

‘I love you too Livia, more than stars in the sky’

The she hangs up. Poor Livia, she’s so worried for me. But this isn’t right. I don’t belong here, I’m not supposed to be here. I walk along the bay walk, along parks and the dazzling bay itself. I walk along, the time fling past, until I reach the Cemetary. I walk along to the gate, and walk inside. I check the map for plot 23, and walk , the sun coming down again. Dim lights glowing into life around the perimeter of the cemetary. I walk down the headstones, and I find a headtomb, with an owl perched apon an Angel’s arm, whosesitting on the headstone. The writing on the tombstone says

“Artemis Fowl ILoving Husband, Father, and a friend to all.”There was a small picture in the tombstone, and there were roses and lillies around the grave. I put my hands in my pocket, my eyes feeling hot again. And I feel the tears run down my face, even before I start to talk.

There was a small picture in the tombstone, and there were roses and lillies around the grave. I put my hands in my pocket, my eyes feeling hot again. And I feel the tears run down my face, even before I start to talk.’Father, I’m sorry. I’m not sure what to say. I only woke up yesterday as an adult, when I was asleep as a fouteen year old the day before. I never even had the chance to grow up. I don’t know what’s happening to me, I keep seeing this girl, like she’s haunting me, I don’t know why. Somethings not right here. I mean, I’m married to Livia, and I’m still in contact with all my friends, but everythings different. Everybody I’ve helped, or saved, and everyone Livia and her brothers have saved, all gone. Like it never happend. ‘ I start to say, scratching my nose. Another tear falls down my cheek as I look at the picture of my smiling father. ‘I think somethings wrong. I know you, well, the old you, would say “Investigate my boy, Do what you think is necessary”. I need to figure out why I’m here. I’m sorry dad. I’m so sorry’ I start to cry for once in my life. I look at the grave. ‘I’m sorry’.

I walk from the cemetary, thinking, when a thought hits me, I stopped by an internet cafe to do some research, maybe the reason I’m here is a creature. One Livia or the boys would have hunted. I click onto the internet, I look through gigabytes of files, creatures and all. I write down everything that could possibly be doing this to me. I find one creature, very interesting. A Djinn. An ancient Hindu creature, it was able to use its godlike power to cause its victims to go into a dream like state. Then it slowly feeds of them. That sounds very close to my situation. I research some more, and then I find something interesting. How to kill one. I need a silver knife, dipped in lambs blood. Well, that sounds…charming. But if it’s real, then it must be done. I do more research. After having printed all my files of research, I walk along down the street and making a stop at the butchers, then an antique store. I have what I need, now I have to go to find where the hell this creature could be. I have a theory, and my theories usually prove correct. I head back to my car, hopping in, hiding the knife and the paper bag, then I start the engine, about to drive off, when Holly gets into the car. I was quite shocked.

‘Holly? What are you doing here?’

Holly turns to me, looking very determined. She’s wearing A denim jacket, jeans and boots.

‘Livia called me, she’s worried sick about you, you haven’t been home all day, and you just left this morning. So I’m keeping an eye on you. I’m coming with you, wherever your going’

I stare at her, then look outside my window. I turn back to her after releasing my tension.

‘Now. Now you choose to be protective?’

She turns to me, glaring, ‘Artemis, I don’t care what the hell has gotten into you, but for your sake, and as a friend, I’m looking out for you’

I smile in an annoyed fashion, then drive off. It’ll take a while before I reach my destination. About twenty minutes later into the drive of silence, Holly looks at the paper bag in the center glovebox.

‘What’s in the bag?’ she asks.

I continue to watch the road.

‘Nothing’

Holly isn’t convinced, ‘Nothing eh?’

She starts to unravel the top.

‘I wouldn’t do that’ I say casually. Holly pulls out a jar, I can tell she’s horrified.

‘Artemis, what the hell is this?!’

‘Blood’

‘I can see that, what the hell is it doing in your car?!?!’ She exclaims. I turn to her, and she pulls out a phone, starting to dial a number.

‘What are you doing Holly?’

‘ Calling Trouble Or Liv, We need to get some help’

I sigh, lick my lips, roll down my window, grab her phone and chuck it out. Holly is in disbelief.

‘What the hell did you do that for?!’

‘I’m not insane’

‘I didn’t say you were, but you need help!’

I glance at her, emotionlessly, and continue driving.

Ten minutes later, we reach the Industial estate of Dublin Quarry. Holly is asleep beside me, and I wink a light in her face. She snaps instantly awake.

‘Where are we?’ she rubs her eyes, getting out of the car beside me.

‘We’re in Dublin Quarry, in the industrial area.’

Holly looks around, still tired.

‘Why are we here?’

I stare at the door to an abandoned looking factory shop.

‘Becuase there’s something here’

I walk forward, Holly following after me. We carefully creep into the first room, which looks like an old reception area. It’s rusty and dark, water dripping from the ceiling. It smells of waste here. We walk past the reception area, and we walk into the hallway, towards somewhere.

‘Stay behind me Holly’ I instruct her. She’s panicking behind me.

‘Artemis, I think we should get out of here, it doesn’t look safe, let’s just go home…’ she says, but I hush her. There’s a whimpering noise from somewhere. We head forward again, and I can feel my knife in my pocket, weighing it down. We continue forward, an eerie feeling creeping around us. We walk through a door, into a staircase. We walk down, a step creaking weakly. We stop, fear rising in my chest. I have to do this, I can’t be here. My theory must be true.We continue down, when we reach what appears to be a basement. There’s a medical curtain in the middle of the room, and others around it. There’s some boxes, and another staircase to another area. We walk down, and there’s two girls corpses there. I recognise them, they were the ones from my closet.

‘My god. What kind of sick human would do this?’ Holly sounds disgusted. I look around, searching. I see something by another medical curtain, and walk towards it. It’s a girl, the girl. The girl who was haunting me. She looks drugged, sleepy, and she’s connected to a tube, where her blood runs into a small bag. She’s tied up, like an animal at the butchers.

‘It’s her’ I mumble. Holly glances at me, totally dumbfounded.

‘Okay, now I’m really freaked out.’ she says, but I’m not paying attention.

‘She wasn’t haunting me. Maybe she was trying to tell me this is what’s happening, trying to…reach out for help.’

Holly is really freaked out now.

‘Okay, Artemis, let’s get out fo here, who knows if the person who did this will come down here!’

Still, I was to busy thinking to myself, ‘What if I’m like her? Strung up here somewhere, getting fed off?’

There was an echo for a door, and Holly and I raced towards the second staircase, and hid behind the boxes. A person was walking down. He was blue, with strange tattoos all over his body. He walked towards the girl, who seemd to be waking up, and she started to cry, whispering, trying to move away, but she was to weak. The Djinn, or what I thought was him, shushed her softly, then moved his hand towards her head, blue light flashing, circling her eyes and sinking in. She fell unconscious, and the Djinn seemed happy. I could see Holly, taking in what was happening, absolute shock all over her features. The Djinn then took the connecting tube from the girl’s wrist, and poured some blood into his mouth. Holly made a gagging sound, and the Djinn noticed. I grabbed Holly and snuck further down the boxes, turning a corner, telling her to shush by moving my finger to my lip. She nodded. We watched as the Djinn connected the tube back and checked where the noise had come from. Seeming satisfied with no result, he headed back up the stairs, and disappeared. I walked back towards the poor girl, and Holly followed me.

‘Artemis, we should get out of here, seriously, that thing could come back and Kill us!’

I walked up to the girl, watching her.

‘Poor girl. She didn’t know where she was, what was happening. She thought she was with someone else, her father’

Holly was sceptic, ‘How do you know that?’

‘I heard her say that’

I looked around her, she looked like she was almost dead now.

‘What if that’s what the Djinn wants? He string us up, then makes us believe in were in a happy dream world, and then feeds of us, leaving us to die?’

Holly is freaked out.

‘Artemis, come on, ok, youre not insane, let’s just get out of here, please’ she places a hand on my shoulder. That’s it, I know what I need to know. I flick around, throwing her hand off my shoulder.

‘I don’t think you’re real. You’re not here’ I say emotionlessly. Holly walks up to me, shaking me.

‘You feel that Artemis, See? I’m real, I’m here!’ She pats herself down. ‘Now please, let’s go!’

I pull out my silver knife, and Holly backs off.

‘No. I don’t think so.’ I hold the knife before me, both hands, like I’m going to plunge the knife into myself.

‘Artemis, put the knife down’ She says slowly.

‘ No way. See, there’s an old wives tail, a legend, that if your about to die in a dream, you can snap right awake.’

Holly looks frightened, very worried for me indeed.

‘Artemis, you’re talking madness, come on, please, let’s get out of here’

I shake my head.

‘There’s only one way to find out.’

I’m about to thrust the knife into my chest, when Holly shouts “STOP!!”

I stop to look up at her. She standing up calmly, and sighs.

‘Why Artemis? Why did you have to keep digging?’ she asks me sympathetically. Trouble walks out from the shadows, and stands beside her, Sam and Dean also walk out, standing towards me right.

‘Why couldn’t you have left well enough alone?’ Sam asks. They all look sad for me. Then my mother walks out, and walks up to me.

‘Come on sweety, stay here’ she smoothes my hair back fro me.

‘I can’t, this isn’t real, it’s all a dream’

Mother smiles, ‘So what? It’s better to be in the future and know whats happening ahead. You’ll be happy, and safe here’ she smiles. She stands back, as I notice Juliet, Butler and Rick standing towards my left, and Livia walks in from the shadows before me. She walks up to me.

‘Sweety, we can be happy, have our own family, raise another generation in happiness’ she strokes my cheeks with her hands I close my eyes, feeling her warm hands comfort me. I open them again.

We were happy as kids’

Livia laughs, soflty, ‘I know Hunny, but now we’re in the future. We can adjust, everthing is perfect.’

I don’t smile, I know this all a lie, everything isn’t perfect. Everything we did as kids has been erased, it never happened. She kisses me again.

‘Give me the knife honey’ she whispers. I look at her. I look at everyone around me, smiling, waiting for me. With a sad and emotionless face, I move backwards, away from them all.

‘I’m sorry. No’

Then I plunge the knife into my chest.

I wake up with a shock, Livia and Sam’s voice calling to me, Livia sad, crying.

‘Arty? Arty! Oh thank god, I thought I’d lost you’ She was crying. I half opened my eyes, and I saw that she was young, fourteen. It had worked, I was back! Sam slipped something from my neck, and then cut the ropes above me, Livia helping me down. I half smiled at her.

‘Livia?’ I rasped. She laughed, the laugh I remember, a tear falling down her cheek. I saw we were still in the warehouse, exactly where I found the Djinn in my dream state.

‘Yes Arty, what is it?’ she smiles. Dean comes running along, and smiles at me too.

‘He’s ok! Great!’ He and Sam look pleased.

‘I need to…help someone….’ I say, trying to stand up. Livia helps me up, and she walks beside me. Dean suddenly stops.

‘SAM!!’ He shouts, and the Djinn from before grabs Sam, wrestling the Silver knife with blood on it from his grip, and knocking Dean down. He wrestles Sam, and he pulls out his hand, trying to do the same thing to Sam that he did for me. Livia sits me down, but I run forward instead. That evil creature was going to pay for what he did. I grabbed the knife, ran behind him and stabbed him in the back. His eyes flashed once, before he fell to the side.

‘Take that you monstrosity. Don’t play cons on Artemis Fowl the II’ I say, wobbling slightly. Sam shakes his head, panting, and looks at me astounded, so doe’s Dean. Livia walks up to me, Smiling. I hug her close to me, glad to be back. She hugs me, laughing.

‘Artemis, are you okay?’ she asks.

I look at her, then smile, ‘I’ll explain later’

I walk around the curtain, Livia, Sam and Dean following me, and I see the girl who was helping me before. She looks worse than she did in my world. I walk up to her, feeling her pulse, as she wakes up.

‘She’s still alive, help me boys, Livia’ I say, pulling a small dart from her neck, and taking the tube from her wrist. Sam cuts her down, and Dean catches her.

‘It’s ok, We got you, eveything’s going to be ok. We got you’

I smile at the girl, stroking her hair away. Livia walks beside me, and places a comforting hand on my shoulder.

We’re back at Fowl Manor, in the lounge room, where I had just told Holly, Livia, Dean, Sam, Butler and Juliet what had happened. Sam just got off the phone.

‘That was the hospital, they called to say the girl is fine, and she’s been stabalised’ he sat beside Dean on a couch. I was still looking at the fireplace, wher the fountain would be, and the open windows. I looked back at them, as they all smiled.

‘So, all that really happened?’ Juliet asked.

‘In my dream, yes’ I said simply. I was tired, exhausted more like, from my experience.

‘I’m proud of you Arty, you were strong to do that’ Livia smiles, patting my hand that she’s holding. I smiled to her.

‘Believe me, I wanted to stay. I wanted to stay badly, it was almost perfect. But in a way, I’m glad I didn’t.’ I said.

‘yeah, but everything we did, is worth it. It was worth it Artemis’ Sam smiles comfortingly.

‘It wasn’t real, it was just a dream. Did you really think of staying?’ Livia says.

I look out the window, where our world is still a mess to be sorted out.

I glanced at them all, my thoughful face had glassy eyes, where I was thinking, still confused.

I had found the truth behind my dream, and it has changed me forever.

The End.
