Artemis was incredibly bored, and Holly had officially gone off the deep end..In his oppinion of course. He had nothing to do, and so had started to whittle, without skill or direction, a straight shaft of wood he had found outside, with Butler’s pocketknife. He only noticed how long he had been sitting when his stomach growled, he accidently drew blood from his finger with his stick, and noticed the sun was high in the sky.
Well, he thought as a single drop of blood oozed from the finest of cuts. His stomach complained again, louder, and he absentmindedly strolled over to the storage holes, almost tripping over Holly. He had offered to help, but she had stared him down (hard to do to Artemis Fowl,), and then gone back to work. He had taken that as an, “I don’t want the help, and I don’t need it,” so he had sat down, and started to shave the wood down.
He opened the first storage hole. It contained berries for flavoring drinks and water, and dark purple, sickeningly sweet Warden’s Heart. The second contained only mushrooms, mainly the rusty red, dusty-tasting Cave apples that grew in profusion from the walls. The third storage hole was deeper, and contained dozens of unbruised mangoes and coconuts, while the fourth hole, and last one, held roots, and tubers. Holly was crazy with work, so he stuck three of the roots, and one mushroom onto his stick, which was about a meter long, and he left them over the fire, where they would puff up.
He thought about Holly for once. He noticed she hadn’t slept since they had arrived here. He looked at her for a moment, and for almost the first time noticed the dark purple crescents under her mismatched eyes, and that her ankle had swollen to the point where it had cracked a few of the sticks it was bound with. Also her hair was cut short, and plastered to her face. Even her nut brown, sun-burned skin was a few shades lighter, and she was wearing a sort of sun-dress made of palm fronds, and mango leaves, while her suit hung over the snapping fire on a vine, steam drying. She had obviously taken a shower, or swam in the pool of the waterfall to the right of the cave.
His dark two piece suit hung there too, the sleeves and pants cut short, and the rips and tears sewn together with yucca fibers. He noticed she had gone completely mad with the work, and his food was burning. He ate it hurriedly, and then set out with his stick, to find a naturally occuring herb called ginseng that grew only in humid subtropical climate. He walked through the jungle in a straight line, so he’d know what direction was back to the cave. As he set out to the west, toward the direction of the wrecked pod, he thought he saw a flurry of something yellow-gold, and fuzzy.
He dismissed it as a bird, and he kept walking at the steady pace he had adopted all evening. After about ten minutes in a straight line west, he was about to turn around and head back to the cave, when he saw a low-growing plant with oval shaped leaves growing in star-shaped clumps of five. It had bright red berries on it, growing in roughly sphere-shaped clusters. Ginseng. It was a muscle relaxent, and when the leaves were used in tea, they induced sleep.
It was a drastic measure, but he feared for Holly’s health if she kept pushing herself the way she was now. He bent low to pick some of the red berries and tender leaves, and he saw again the flash of yellow fur, but it lingered longer, and he saw the black rosettes of spots on it. A jaguar. The most powerful cat in the western hemisphere. He stood erect, moving slowly, and he saw the big cat on a tree limb above him. It was a truly magnificent sight.
The yellow fur he had seen, was the only patch of yellow on the whole jaguar. The big cat was about 8 and a half feet from nose to tail, and was snowy white. It had well-muscled forelegs, and stood about 3 feet at the shoulder. It had lose belly skin, and by it’s bulk, Artemis guessed it weighed about 300 pounds. The claws at the ends of it’s thick forelegs, and longer hindlegs, went in and out slowly, tranquilly almost, but Artemis wasn’t fooled. This jaguar was no friend of his.
It looked at him, and blinked slowly, and then it seemed to know that Artemis wasn’t fooled. It suddenly grew fierce, it’s muscles rippling under it’s taut pelt. It jumped down from it’s limb, straight at him, and he brought his sharp stick up, backwards, for even the Great and Merciless Artemis Fowl the Second feels pity sometimes. The Jaguar fell onto the butt end of the stick, and fell off of it. It hadn’t even hurt the feline. The loose belly skin had protected it. This was the Jaguar’s forest, as far as he was concerned. He ran straight at him, claws unsheathed. He was the king, big, snowy, and powerful. He opened his mouth wide, and roared. At that moment, Artemis rammed the spear into its mouth, killing it instantly.

My my Holly dear. look at all the reviews you’ve got. Sorry it took so long but I’ve been off and on traveling through Wisconsin to get back home. Anyways, yes this is a brilliant story. Artemis and Holly fall into charecter very simply, perfect fit. You could be Eoin Colfer’s Double
May I suggest that you multi task? and not only add to this but to make new stories as well? I look forward to them all. Especially to your updates to this particular story. Again my apologies for being so late.

Story makes it seem like they’ve been there for weeks, but really they’ve only been there…hmm..three days, and four nights, so yeah. Holly has gone completely out of her mind, and Artemis is…well…being, Artemis. Also, chapter 10, or half of it has been added!!!! YAY!!! read the end of chappy ten for more info. Wow. We read this poem today. First it said someone had died. Then, it said that someone had a wife then died. Then, it said that someone had a kid and died again! I felt a little confused about that. That is how I feel about this too.
