This is about Holly. It’s kinda sad, but I felt like writing something sad. It’s H/T, like all my stories, so warning for H/A shippers. There isn’t much action going on, so for action-lovers, this might not be your piece of cake…

Chapter 1- Discovery

Holly was laying in a strange bed, unmoving. She looked around. She was in an unfamiliar room.

The walls were white with several health related posters. There was one of Foaly’s special patent bed-tables with several bunches of flowers resting on it. All of them had cards with some form of “Get Well Soon.”

There was an excruciating pain in her left leg, and she wondered why her magic wasn’t healing it. She tried to sit up, but her leg wouldn’t move.

The door opened as two medics, Foaly, and Trouble came in. They rushed to her side.

“Oh, Holly!”

Holly was brimming with questions.

“Foaly? Trouble? What happened?”

“The medics said to let you rest, then you can talk.”

Holly was annoyed.

“I’m rested plenty!” she said, trying to sit up. It hurt like crazy, but she was determined to have it her way.

After several minutes of arguing, the medics reluctantly allowed 10 minutes, but only because the arguing might worsen her condition.

After the medics left, Holly pounced (not literally) upon Foaly and Trouble, talking a blue streak.

“Whoa, whoa! Slow down! Let us get a word in edgewise!” said Foaly.

“Sorry. ” replied Holly. Foaly motioned for Trouble to explain.

“Ok. Remember when we discovered that bomb?”

Holly nodded.

“Well, when it exploded, you were the first to get hit, and you got a majority of the force, and your spine got chipped. Your magic should have healed it, but there was a chunk that didn’t get re-attached. So that’s why everything but your leg is in perfect condition.”

Holly was flabbergasted (don’t you love that word?). “So, I’m part paraletic now.”

Realization and sadness dawned in her eyes. “So that means I’m….I….I…can’t work in Recon anymore?”

Both male fairies hadn’t thought of that. They had only been worried for Holly’s life. The two of them nodded sadly.

Holly felt weak and defenseless in the weeks that followed. She could hobble around on her crutches, but she couldn’t go very far for very long.

Through physical therapy, she was learning, but it wasn’t the same. She remembered the days when she could run miles without being short of breath, the way the wind felt on her face, and how free as a bird she felt. Now, after walking around her small apartment, she would be panting hard with exhaustion.

The physical therapist said that there was only the smallest chance she would be able to walk normally, and with a profound limp.

“Oh, why, why did this happen to me? What did I do to deserve this?”

She asked herself that question over and over again as the weeks dragged by.

“Why?”
