Loading ...“Rin? Could I ask you something?” Artemis asked as he unshielded. Rin blushed. “What?”
“Is there any way to trap the transformation in the first stage permanently?” Artemis was not willing to part with his new powers but the idea of being seperated from his family and friends did not appeal to him.
Rin, Artemis, Holly, Butler, and Minerva were back to the surface and were sitting in the lounge of Fowl Manor.
“Um… that’s a pretty unusual scenario, and I’m not sure. I think there have been a few occurances in history but in most of them, the victims died before reaching stage two. Our scientists have experimented with this. It was called experiment 8HJS9. All the test subjects were disposed of after the experiment failed, including my-” Rin broke into sobs again, and everyone decided not to pursue the subject further.
“So either way, what does that scroll say?” Holly interrupted. Rin stopped shaking and started to read it out loud:
1 sultre of Ascultrinum
345 yisets of glucose
23 uroaiseb of tuawg powder
8 holly berries
4 sefuh of garlic powder
2 eggs of a stoney tree frog
3 yesets of crucian carp scales
6.5 hebiecs of Oviraptoridae feathers
Rin swallowed. “This is not good”
“No it isn’t…” Artemis sighed solemly. Holly and Butler stared. “Why?”
“Because,” Minerva explained. “one of the ingredients call for Oviraptoridae feathers. It was extinct by the end of the Mesozoic era. Were the People there during the dinosaur ages? Did your ancestors keep DNA samples?”
Holly drew up a computer screen and put Foaly on a projector.
“Yes, mud girl. Our history traces faries to the Triassic period. The centaurs deemed it prudent to keep DNA samples as it was predicted that the ancient beasts would die out eventually. However, in those times, we did not have the time stop technology we have today. The samples decayed soon after” Foaly did not say this with the usual smugness. Artemis interrupted.
“Isn’t there a equivelent to Oviraptoridae feathers? Perhaps you have some sort of substitute?”
“No.” Rin’s head drooped to her chest.”You can’t use substitutes or lab-made materials. This potion is a magical concoction, and is not like making a robot where if you run out of iron you can use steel” Rin grew more and more upset. “No one had ever made the mistake of biting a human in our history so an antidote was not prepared for millions of years.”
“Indeed. And that is why we’re here…” Everyone turned to find two burly vampires armed to the teeth with magical weapons materialize from the shadows.
“We are bounty hunters Fantasia established on the surface. We are the only survivors of experiment 8HJS9 so we were obviously chosen to police the surface as we pose no threat to the mud men”
Yes, that is the experiment mentioned earlier.
Holly raised her Neutrino. Rin held a hand against her. “Don’t bother. These two are Weader and Yiencex Gilfae. They were originally chosen for the experiment because in life they were infamous gangleaders who were experts in assasination. Combine that with magic and your puny guns will not have any effect…”
“Why, you even know our names. How honored” Weader sneered. “Before you die, you should at least know who your killer is…now prepare to face your execution!”
Everyone took a step back simtaneously.
“I don’t think so…” a voice whispered overhead.
In a split second flash, the Gilfaes were on the floor, trembling with fear and had blood on their faces. In front of them stood a cloaked figure holding a gold and silver sword.
“It can’t be!” Rin gasped. “The Marble sword is a Meirmere family heirloom! Don’t tell me you’re-”
Light shone on the man’s face as he smiled warmly.
“Nice to see you too, Sis…”
It had turned into one interesting afternoon for everyone.

Yeah, and after her encounters with mud men, vampires will think of Rin as a traitor (oops… I think I said too much).

You can start rating by the next chapter. That is where things really start getting exciting. You expect the main conflict is Rin going home, but it really isn’t. It’s much worse.

DRAT!!! I forgot Minerva doesn’t appear before the Lost Colony! Oh well! Readers, just pretend that Minerva meets Artemis during that time! Stupid.stupid.stupid.stupid.stupid. Actually, scratch that. I’m just going to pretend this is after the lost colony and everything is settled down with all the mind wipes on Arty’s parents and Holly is still going solo.

Yeah, I forgot the vampire smile. And besides, vampire sight is greatly dilluted by light. I also could not come up with a decent title, and it will seem like a bloody lily later on. I think that covers everything. Oh, and I have bad grammar that I’ll try to correct.

I’m not really good at those “sweet” moments, but I’ll try in the future. Fear not, Arty fans! There IS a cure, it just depends on if Rin is willing to help them (or if she runs out in fear or disgrace).
