Artemis called Butler to his room. “Sit down” said Artemis, gesturing toward a chair on the other side of the room. ”This morning, I found two e-mails on my computer. One from Holly, one from Foaly. In Holly’s e-mail, she told me about how she was going on a mission to Iceland.” Artemis left out the part about it being cold. That’s not important, right now. “A moment later,” Artemis continued. “I opened the e-mail from Foaly. Here’s what it said.” As Artemis read the letter, Butler’s face remained expressionless. “I need to get to Iceland,” he continued. “I want you to make sure that Myles and Beckett stay out of this. You know how they are.” Butler did. Every single time Artemis had anything important to deal with, the twins always insisted on knowing what it was. They knew that Artemis was mixed up with the fairies, and they wanted to have an adventure, too. “I’ll try,” said Butler, after a moment’s hesitation. “Good,” said Artemis. “Meanwhile, I’ll do some research on Mt. Öræfajökull.”
That night, something strange happened. It snowed! And even in Ireland, it generally doesn’t snow in June.
Artemis was in his study. He was on his bed with his laptop next to him. There was some shuffling in the hall. Two heads peeped in. “What are you doing, Artemis?” asked one of them. Artemis looked up. Myles and Beckett. “Nothing,” he said, casually closing his laptop. The twins weren’t convinced. “Come on, Artemis. Tell us!” begged Myles, while Beckett put on his best puppy face. “No,” said Artemis. “You need to learn to mind your own business.” Beckett rolled his eyes. “We would rather mind yours,” he said. “Get out of my room,” said Artemis, starting to lose his temper. The twins, seeing that they were getting nowhere, left the room. But only after they had spent a moment to give Artemis a few flying raspberries.
Artemis was on Google. He typed “Öræfajökull” in the search bar. Only about 7,000 results came up. Not a very famous volcano. He clicked on the link to Wikipedia, and read the article:
Öræfajökull is an ice-covered volcano in south-east Iceland. It is the largest active volcano in the country and on its north-western rim is Hvannadalshnúkur, the highest peak in Iceland. Geographically Öræfajökull is considered a part of the Vatnajökull glacier and the area covered by glacier is inside the bounds of Skaftafell National Park.
Öræfajökull has erupted twice in historical time. In 1362 the volcano erupted explosively with huge amounts of tephra being ejected. The district of Litla-Hérað was destroyed with floods and tephra fall. More than 40 years passed before people again settled the area which became known as Öræfi. The name literally means an area without harbour but it took on a meaning of wasteland in Icelandic. An eruption in August 1727 was smaller, though floods are known to have caused three fatalities.
Artemis could see why it wasn’t very famous.

How did I get the “a” and the “e” to stick together? I was doing a Wikipedia search for mountains in Iceland. When I saw Öræfajökull, I copied and pasted it onto the story panel! I’m glad you liked it!

Olive- Yes, it took a LOT of research. All these places are real. Mt. Öræfajökull is real and I will add more REAL places later! I might even add a pic of Mt. Öræfajökull!

I like it very much. It has a good layout and a great storyline. No grammar mistakes that I can see. But I think that this story is really going somewhere!

OK, you see the other blackets have to large of holes that let the little bedbugs come through invest you, your clothes, and anything they come in contact with. so the people invented a sheet that you ca put over you mattress and pillows to keep them out, the threads are so tight, when you spill something on it it falls right off with no trace of it every being there, not even a wet spot!

I probably won’t use the anti-bug blankets until later. I might end up having to go camping. Because I’ve been doing some research, and there appear to be no hotels anywhere around Mt. Öræfajökull.

I didn’t learn to read until Kindergarten! Myles and Beckett aren’t genii like Artemis. So they’re about 6 years old.

tents are cold!!! when u go camping they wake you up at the crack of dawn and then you get outside and feel all hyper my little bro thought it would approprite if we drank Fanta the OJ kind to wake up with the sun so we rode around on our baikes for an hour slurping OJ while singing stupid songs waking everyone else up! lol oooh how stupid I feel now!

I live in bear country… It’s not uncommon to hear big heavy footsteps and to see hairy shadows on the tent wall. You might even hear low growling! It’s scary!

FYI: Iceland is very warm, it has no ice. It was named that way by the Romans so that other people would THINK that its cold and nobody would steel their precious land. GREENLAND is the cold one, as it was also named by the Romans so that people would go THERE instead of Iceland.

They’re looking for Neville because his dad was the one that broke into their hotel room. They suspect that Nevilles dad has something to do with the Holly Case. But his dad was killed in a plane accident 10 years ago, so they need to find Neville to question him about his father. Even though he was only about two when his dad died. Let me tell you now, Neville is going to be a main character in this book. I took a quiz that rates OCs and Neville was rated 26! That’s an almost perfect number! So I hope that answers some questions of yours. Tell me if you have any more!

Symojen is right, Iceland has only ice on the northern tip, and it’s not so much. It’s really warm; sometimes reaching 100 degrees southern in the fall. That’s okay!

Wait lemme’ search Iceland … no, no! This is really confusing but just listen. Europe told Rome that this penninsula (Iceland - wasn’t called Iceland back then; was a penninsula) was full of lush vegetation and stuff like that because they thought it was. So the Romans tried to get there and start a new civilization there. They ACTUALLY ended up in what is now greenland. Iceland was infact very warm back then, and Greenland was very cold. They became angry because Rome thought Europe had lied to them to get them out. So, they named greenland Greenland so that they could get rid of the Europeans! When they found Iceland on their way back, they named it Iceland so the Europeans wouldn’t go there. OVER TIME GREENLAND BECAME WARMER AND ICELAND BECAME COLDER.

Oooh! Now I get it! So Europe made a mistake, Rome mistook it. They went to Greenland by accident and got mad, then tricked Europe to get revenge. See what revenge can do? It can get people confused about what actually happened and may just start a war.
