Coral climbed up onto the stage, millions of thoughts running through her head. The lyrics to the song she was about to sing, the butterflies in her stomach, but most of all her little newborn daughter, Holly Berry. She peeked from behind the curtain, and located Sky, her sister, with the little baby elf cradled in her arms. Coral took a deep breath, and stepped out onto the middle of the stage. The music began, and she counted the beats of the introduction in her head. Finally it was time.

From underneath the trees, we watch the sky,
Confusing stars, for satellites.
I never dreamed that you’d be mine,
But here we are, we’re here tonight.

Singing Amen, I, I’m alive.
Singing Amen, I, I’m alive.

She had been given a project. She had to choose any way she could to express her feelings about the hatred between fairies and humans. Flipping through human radio stations because she wasn’t in the mood for some of the cruelty in some of the fairy songs, she had heard the perfect song. If Everyone Cared. It was exactly how she felt, and knew she had to sing it.  She had watched the others before her, gesturing at posters, explaining their points of view. Now it was her turn. She was different, yes, but it was right.

If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Then we’d see the day when nobody died.

And I’m singing

Amen I, Amen I, I’m alive.
Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I’m alive.

Coral’s strength grew throughout the chorus, and the nervous butterflies in her stomach seemed to flit away. She tried to show on her face just how much she believed what she was singing was true. If the humans and fairies could get along and share, no one would have to die because they were protecting their species. There would not be so large of a recon team, because it wouldn’t be needed.

And in the air, the fireflies,
Our only light in paradise.
We’ll show the world they were wrong,
And teach them all to sing along.

Singing Amen, I, I’m alive
Singing Amen, I, I’m alive
(I’m alive)

Judging the humans, thinking they could never love peace, it was just wrong.

If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Would we see the day when nobody died?

If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Then we’d see the day when nobody died.                                                                                                                                                                                                          When nobody died.

She tried to sing the question in the first stanza- would we see the day when nobody died?- as a true question, make her audience start to think. And it worked. She saw a few brows furrow, and everyone generally looked more thoughtful. A few fairies even nodded.

And as we lie beneath the stars,
We realize how small we are.
If they could love like you and me,
Imagine what the world could be.

Coral almost faltered. Some of the audience had started to look bored. But as she sang, she renewed her confidence. She pictured the peace and harmony if people loved. They. The humans. The fairies who didn’t agree with her line of work. If those people really cared, they would be the ones to build some of the strongest bonds between the fairies and humans.

If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Would we see the day when nobody died?

If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Then we’d see the day when nobody died.

Her sweet voice glided through through the last few bars of music, trying to keep her strong emotions of agreement with the song, and so much more in check.

We’d see the day, we’d see the day,
When nobody died.
We’d see the day, we’d see the day,
When nobody died.
We’d see the day when nobody died.

The song ended on an open chord, making the song feel like it was incomplete. And it was. The song continued as people flowed up towards the stage, once cruel, human-hating faces now changed to at least partly caring ones.  Their new love was the song. They would carry it on. She looked out to her sister, and her baby daughter. They smiled, Holly gurgled, and stretched her little arms towards her mother. Coral smiled.

  1. These don’t suck! I’m serious! You did really good on yours. I loved it. Amazing job! 😀

  2. Arty’s: Nice and sweet. Fairly fitting for the situation. *insert concrit here, ‘cause I can’t write it for a challenge*
Fighter: Haha, I wrote a songfic with Fighter – by Christina Augilera, no less. XD http://artemisfowl.fangathering.com/fanfiction/angst/fighter/ No one reads it anymore, and it’s pretty bad, so whatever, XD. I thought Holly’d feel more like this after the Time Paradox, not the Siege, but it’s an interesting take – having her sing it and all. I liked the ending ^^.
Coral’s: My, interesting. I’ve seen few Coral-centered fics, and this was nice. Cute, meaningful, powerful, and an interesting take on things.
No1: Again, you don’t see a lot of things. Never heard the song, but I can see how it would relate to No1’s experience. Without the lyrics, though, the thing kinda falls flat… and I just never read the lyrics, so… XD
BONUS! XD: Cute, sweet, but you’re right, it doesn’t really suit for a character description. Overall, nice job!
