~Hey Holly, I remember your name.

~Left a dozen roses on your grave today.

~I’m in the grass, on my knees, wipe the leaves away.

~I just came to talk for a while,

~I got some things I need to say.

Artemis was doing just that. Eventually, it had come down to it. The inevitable fairy/human war. Holly had fought her hardest, led a strong battle, but it wasn’t enough to save her. She had died doing what she was born to do. Artemis had asked for a proper burial, and as a friend to the people, they allowed him to.

~Now that it’s over,

~I just wanna hold her.

~I’d give up all the world to see,

~That little piece of heaven looking back at me.

~Now that it’s over,

~I just wanna hold her.

~I gotta live with the choices I made,

~But I can’t live with myself today.

Holly hadn’t been alone when she died. Artemis had volunteered himself as a battle strategist, but he made some wrong choices. He made a decision to let her go out on the battlefield on her own, no squadron, or anyone. She had been shot almost immediately, none of the other fairies paying her any attention as she fell. Now he regretted that decision.

~Hey Holly, I remembered your birthday.

~They said it’d bring me some closure,

~To say your name.

~I know I’d do it all different if I had the chance,

~But all I’ve got are these roses to give,

~And they can’t help me make amends.

He wished he could go back, and tell her not to go out there, to fix his mistake. Or at least go back in time, like before, and say goodbye. The way he had arranged for her to say goodbye to her commander. But going into the time tunnel after so many times already would surely kill him.

~Now that it’s over,

~I just wanna hold her.

~I’d give up all the world to see

~That little piece of heaven looking back at me.

~Now that it’s over,

~I just wanna hold her.

~I gotta live with the choices I made,

~But I can’t live with myself today.

He swept a strand of short dark hair out of his face, took a deep, shaky breath. He closed his eyes, and imagined her.

~Here we are,

~Now you’re in my arms.

~I never wanted anything so bad.

~Here we are,

~For a brand new start.

~Living the life that we could have had.

He imagined Holly, and himself; thought of all they had done, the few times they’d kissed, and also of what he wished they could have done.

~Me and Holly walking hand in hand.

~Me and Holly, never wanna end.

~Just another moment in your eyes,

~I’ll see you in another life.

~In heaven, where we never say goodbye.

He shook his head. There was time enought to do those things later. When he passed and joined her.

~Now that it’s over,

~I just wanna hold her.

~I’d give up all the world to see,

~That little piece of heaven looking back at me.

~Now that it’s over,

~I just wanna hold her.

~I gotta live with the choices I made,

~And I can’t live with myself today.

He thought again of his decision, and his wishes. He hated himself for it. He should have been the one to die. A soft sigh escaped his lips.

~Here we are,

~Now you’re in my arms.

~Here we are for a brand new start.

~Gotta live with the choices I’ve made,

~And I can’t live with myself today.

Pictures flashed through his mind. The first time he had seen her, kidnapped her, her exhausted face after saving Butler from being frozen forever, pictures of all their different adventures. Even pictures of when she was angry. They were all perfect to him.

~Me and Holly walking hand in hand.

~Me and Holly never wanna end.

~Gotta live with the choice I’ve made,

~And I can’t live with myself today.

He stood, slowly wiping wet streaks from his face. He whispered,

~”Hey Holly, I remember your name.”

  1. These don’t suck! I’m serious! You did really good on yours. I loved it. Amazing job! 😀

  2. Arty’s: Nice and sweet. Fairly fitting for the situation. *insert concrit here, ‘cause I can’t write it for a challenge*
Fighter: Haha, I wrote a songfic with Fighter – by Christina Augilera, no less. XD http://artemisfowl.fangathering.com/fanfiction/angst/fighter/ No one reads it anymore, and it’s pretty bad, so whatever, XD. I thought Holly’d feel more like this after the Time Paradox, not the Siege, but it’s an interesting take – having her sing it and all. I liked the ending ^^.
Coral’s: My, interesting. I’ve seen few Coral-centered fics, and this was nice. Cute, meaningful, powerful, and an interesting take on things.
No1: Again, you don’t see a lot of things. Never heard the song, but I can see how it would relate to No1’s experience. Without the lyrics, though, the thing kinda falls flat… and I just never read the lyrics, so… XD
BONUS! XD: Cute, sweet, but you’re right, it doesn’t really suit for a character description. Overall, nice job!
