I linger in the doorway
Of alarm clock screaming, monsters calling my name.
Let me stay where the wind will whisper to me,
Where the raindrops as they’re falling tell a story.

Rose watched reluctantly as her mother left the house. It seemed Her mother had forgotten her lately. Holly Kelp was a sorrowful person these days. But was that an excuse to forget her daughter? Certainly not. Rose didn’t care how busy her mother said she was. She missed the way she was before her father died. Her Godfather too. Artemis was like an uncle to Rose and Trouble meant more to her then life. They’re both gone now….
In my field of paper flowers,
And candy clouds of lullaby {flowers}
I lie inside my self for hours,
And watch my purple sky fly over me {flowers}

Rose walked away from the window. It seemed as though the sky was mourning with her. Her mother and her moved to Fowl Manor when they reported Her father M.I.A. then her godfather went to look for him. He was brought back with big hole punched clear through his chest. Rose’s eyes stung. “Maybe…In my dreams….I’ll see you again.” she whispered.

Don’t say I’m out of touch
With this rampant chaos, your reality
I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge
The nightmare I built my own world to escape

Was this how she was supposed to live? Skipping school. Listening to her mother cry at night. Being afraid and alone? A sigh escaped Rose’s lips as she fell to her knees. In the gloom of her bedroom you could glimpse silver tears falling to the floor. Forgotten. Was that her destiny? Unloved. Was misery the only thing she had to look forward to? Hopeless. Surely there was something better?
In my field of paper flowers,
And candy clouds of lullaby {flowers}
I lie inside my self for hours,
And watch my purple sky fly over me {flowers}

Rose’s body shook with sobs. This wasn’t how things were meant to be. Her father was missing most likely dead. Her godfather was murdered and her mother? Her mother had let herself drown in her tears. Another round of violent sobs raked through Rose’s body forcing her on her hands and knees. “No!” she moaned. “No. Daddy! Please! Come back! Come back….”

Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
Cannot cease for the fear of a silent night
Oh how I long for the deep sleep dreaming
The goddess of an Imaginary life

Without knowing it Rose had fallen asleep. In her dreams Rose walked through a field of paper flowers. She saw Artemis and her father sharing a joke. With a surge of happiness rose ran through the flowers her long read hair dancing with the sweet wind. She landed in her father’s arms. Artemis stroked her hair as Trouble held her tight. Rose could feel her tears against her cheeks. her father raised her face to his. “Why are you crying Rose?” he asked gently. “I’m happy father.” Rose replied burring her face in his chest.

In my field of paper flowers,
And candy clouds of lullaby {flowers}
I lie inside my self for hours,
And watch my purple sky fly over me {flowers}

Rose pulled back and looked at Artemis. Artemis smiled and ruffled her hair. Rose smiled sadly at him. She looked up at her blue moon and the red sun just to the left of it. The purple sky. The sweet air. Trouble and Artemis. Everything was perfect.

{paper flowers}

Her happiness didn’t last as long as she would have liked. For even now she realized it was only a dream. And all dreams come to an end. She felt her eyes give more tears as she looked up into the smiling faces of Artemis and her father.

{paper flowers}

At least she could enjoy this. In her sweet beautiful dream. Where everything she truly wanted was there to greet her. She would cherish every last moment. How she longed to sleep forever. Her tears dried and she smiled. Trouble and Artemis never left her. They were here. Here in her field of paper flowers.

  4. why, why, why!!!!??? i love the story, and you are a wonderful writer, but so many sad stories! why???

  5. Writing depressing stories is my specialty. I used to be depressed all the time because my mother was poor and raising two children. And now she is married and we have a wonderful house and wonderful friends and a wonderful life. It’s just nice for me to dip a toe back into the reality of misery to remind myself that I should be thankful for my new life.
