Artemis opened his hand and a nice hundred-dollar bill landed in it. He looked up again at the girl holding it, and was again puzzled. He had seen that face before. Hadn’t he…? She stared back at him grimly.
“That’s it, right?”
Artemis was caught off-guard as she asked him a perfectly reasonable question. Artemis started to nod, but knew, really, that he didn’t mean it. And she kew that too; she saw her smirk.
“Yeah. That’s it,” Artemis lied, even though she still owed him a hundred. Still… that could wait.
I can’t trust her. She’s using me. I can’t be used.
I am, after all, Artemis Fowl.
It was true. It had been a few days now, and Artemis was still unable to meet her gaze. And that other thing, that way he felt different in her presence. Almost… less worthy. Almost small. Almost complete. But not quite.
I think I just might make it. He’s getting used to me, I think, and… I might make it, if he doesn’t do anything stupid. For the first time in more than a decade, I will be taking my thoughts elsewhere, away from him. Maybe it will do me good. Maybe. But honestly, I kind of doubt that. So I have to make everything perfect before I go. I have plans for tonight. Because… I think the first event is coming soon.
Finish tomorrah 😀 She reveals her identity in this chapter ^^
