*points at title* haha! Okay, so first things first. This is a short update. I have to get back to studying for my exams on Monday and might be absent for two whole weeks, but I promise to return with more, as soon as I possibly can. Written on iPad, so might be shorter than I expected. Sorry. Dedicated to the faithful army against Zidan and everyone who reviewed thus far.
Chix was getting worried. Not only because the team inside was taking forever to come outside, or rather send the Mud Men outside, but because Holly was in there, for crying out loud! So what if she had a crush on Fowl? Chix still owed her a lot.
He decided that Fowl’s plan was insane. Did the LEP below ground even know about this thing they were trying to pull?
If they failed, they’d all be in deep trouble.
And then it struck him. Trouble!
“It wouldn’t take more than a few minutes,” said Artemis, though not in the tones of someone who was probably speaking his last. “Once we surface, the humans would no doubt already be outside the building, expecting much less than eighteen teams of trained professionals pointing guns at them.” He paused for effect. “Brilliant.”
Silver scowled. “Put the helmet on, Mud Boy. Holly is going to kill me for this.”
“Not if it proves to be a success.”
Minerva snorted. “Yeah, because every girl likes the guys who risk their necks inside a pool of sharks voluntarily.”
Artemis smirked. “I’m sure Holly does,” he said, fastening the transparent helmet. “I trust everything is ready, Silver?”
“Just get in, play with the wires and get out. If we find any sharks, leave it to me,” said the hybrid, annoyance obvious in her voice. “Go.”
Holly and Piper were hiding in the least dignified way possible.
Inside a wardrobe.
Although, in their defence, they WERE being chased by crazed Mud Men with a lot of big guns, and the wardrobe had a lot of space to spare. You couldn’t even see the end of it.
They heard voices outside.
“Find them!” Barked a human. “They are hiding in here somewhere! We’ll be killed if they get away!”
“Yeah right,” snorted another, obviously younger Mud Man. “Let’s hope they aren’t in the supplies closet.”
Piper reached into it further and found it was big enough to stand in. And yes, there it was. A shelf. And a shelf over that. Two heavy shelves on either sides of the walls.
Holly, out of curiosity, reached into one of them.
She felt something. A very big something with a trigger and a hole in one end.
The other elf shot her a grin. “These are most certainly loaded,” she declared.
Underwater, Artemis was almost regretting his decision. He’d been an idiot. They had everything, from iris-cams to com sets and he simply did not think of staying on land and giving out instructions! He was partly furious at Minerva for not pointing it out and partly furious at himself for acting like…like Orion. Holly had been the only thing on his mind. He was only thinking of how he could impress her, convince her that he was still the selfless, ingenious person he’d been before the cloning that caused him to lose so much memory.
Holly had thought that all along.
From behind, Silver tapped him on the shoulder. “We have a little oxygen left in these things, Fowl. No time to dawdle.” She dived further in.
He almost followed her down. Almost.
But then again, one cannot necessarily swim ahead, or below, when there is a set of skull crushing tiger shark teeth in front of you.
Then, for the first time in three years, Artemis Fowl used a swear word that he himself referred to as crude.
Okay, so Trouble Kelp will soon make his grand entrance. Hope you enjoyed, and please leave comments. Reviewing is considered a very polite thing.
P.S: More A/H and Holly’s promised “girl talk” to come in later chapters!
