Chapter seven
“What is this ‘subtle knife’?” Opal mussed. For all her brains she still didn’t get this whole ‘subtle knife’ deal. Maybe it was too subtle even for her.
Mrs. Coulter overheard her.
“The subtle knife is the most powerful weapon in this universe.” She said almost smugly. “Perhaps it even overpowers mechanical ones. It can cut anything from paper to titanium to, can you believe this, air.”
“It’s a wonder you want it so much.” Opal said as she rolled her eyes. Then she got serious. “What makes you so interested in the children who bear this weapon?”
“I told you.” Mrs. Coulter said. She stirred the soup in the hot black pot in front of her. “Lyra is my daughter. She means a lot to me. I would never harm a hair on her head for anyone. But that boy. her friend, Will. He’s different. He’s the one I’m interested in. He’s the knife bearer. I’d hurt him to get that knife but never, ugh, kill him. I wouldn’t say the same for Lyra’s father though.”
“If you won’t, I will.”
“What do you care about the knife?”
“Absolutely nothing,” she said running a hand through her jet-black hair and checking her manicured nails at the same time. “The thing that actually interests me is world domination. Plus, a good murder would do me good. Murder is my hobby, you know.”
Mrs. Coulter looked up from her cooking. “You’re a beast.” She said, her pretty face scrunched up in an ugly frown.
Koboi paused to look her strait in the eyes. It wasn’t a “you-and-I-will-get-along-great” kind of stare. It was a “shut-up-or-you’re-toast” kind of stare.
“I repeat: murder is my hobby, you know.”
Mrs. Coulter went back to stirring her soup. Her villainous self told her, ‘that sneezing powder, you know where it is. It’s in the cabinet above the sink’ But her righteous half argued, ‘no, revenge won’t solve anything. Wait ‘till she makes a wrong move, then go for it.’
Mrs. Coulter smiled. She always liked her nice half.

I like the short chapters! I LOVE short chapters. I’ve read the Dark Materials, and they’re so good! I haven’t seen the movie, though. I don’t want to, anyway. But you should read the other series Philip Pullman wrote. The first one is called the Ruby in the Smoke. READ IT! It’s so good. Btw, I like your story! continue!

artyfowl3, i am sorry to say that i will never read this story, Pullman’s( >:(_)-rar(i hate him)) stories (ANY of them), or any other books about killing God.
