Chapter twelve
“How did you defeat her last?” asked Will.
“We outsmarted her by stealing her most treasured possession. And when I say ‘we’ I mean my companions and I,” replied Artemis. “I can’t do it without the key parts which would be my friends, our shuttle pod, her shuttle pod, a few bombs, and two dim wits that she hired.”
“Mrs. Coulter is no dimwit,” Lyra said. “It won’t be easy outsmarting her and this Opal Koboi.”
“Plus,” Will said, “who knows when they’ll pop up. They could know where we are and what we’re doing already and kidnap us in two seconds.”
“You’re right,” said Artemis. “But I doubt they could get us if we keep moving briskly in the opposite direction, hopefully giving me enough time to figure out what to do next.”
After that, they continued down the third mountain. They were getting over the last of the foothills when Mrs. Coulter found them.
“Thank goodness I found you, Lyra, darling!” she said, falsely. “I was so worried that the Magisterium may have found you. Why did you run away? You know very well that the Magisterium despises you.”
“Drop it, Coulter.” Koboi said, suddenly appearing from behind a rock. “A smart girl like Lyra wouldn’t fall for that act…” Her voice drifted away when she saw Artemis. “Fowl…” She hissed menacingly.
“Ah, Opal Koboi. Long time, no see.” He said calmly though obviously trying not to scream and run.
“Finally, a chance to get you out of my life.” She growled.
Artemis crossed his arms. “Now is that any way to greet an old friend?”
She picked up a rock and lunged. She made a deep cut in his arm. Blue sparks swirled around his wound, closing it and leaving no more than a slight scar.
“Careful with that.” He cautioned. When he looked up from his scar, he found all eyes were on him. “What?”
After what seemed like a century, Mrs. Coulter grabbed Lyra. “I’m taking her with me.”
“Will!” Cried Lyra. “Artemis!”
Automatically, Will leaped forward, brandishing his knife. “Will,” Artemis said, then quietly, almost a whisper, “I’ll think of something.”
There will be more chapters but I have to do my homework, eat dinner, and go to bed in time for school tomorrow, so I’ll upload them later. R&R, peoples!!!!

I like the short chapters! I LOVE short chapters. I’ve read the Dark Materials, and they’re so good! I haven’t seen the movie, though. I don’t want to, anyway. But you should read the other series Philip Pullman wrote. The first one is called the Ruby in the Smoke. READ IT! It’s so good. Btw, I like your story! continue!

artyfowl3, i am sorry to say that i will never read this story, Pullman’s( >:(_)-rar(i hate him)) stories (ANY of them), or any other books about killing God.
