Doorway to Cittàgazze
Written on December 10th, 2007 by artyfowl3Story Details
I wrote this fan fiction almost a year ago, but deleted it because of how it sucked. In case none of you have read it, it’s a cross over between Artemis Fowl and His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. You’ve probably heard of the Golden Compass which was made into a movie (which stunk, by the way). This takes place after the Subtle Knife (the second book) and before the Amber Spyglass (the third). You don’t have to read the books or see the movie, I’ll fill you in.
Chapter one
Artemis smiled to himself. He had been working months with little sleep to create his new project: a doorway into another world. “Artemis,” Angeline Fowl called through the door, “What on earth are you up to in there?”
“Nothing, Mother,” Artemis called back. “I shall be out in a minute.”
“Very well. Dinner is in half an hour.”
Artemis didn’t reply. Instead he turned back to his invention. Looking around, he cautiously stepped through the wide portal. Once through, he glanced around him, memorizing every detail. The sky was dim and red as if at sunset. Tall, brick buildings loomed above him. In the windows, he could see the reflection of the empty, cobblestone streets.
He peered down the avenue, searching for some sign of life. At the horizon, he saw two figures. The lack of light prevented him from making out any distinguishing features. Suddenly, he felt uncharacteristically afraid and he wished that he’d brought Butler along, but he had been too excited to consider that.
As the figures grew closer, he noticed that the leading one, the taller of the two, was carrying a knife in his clenched fist.
Fighting the urge to run, he called out, quieter than he thought, “Who are you?”
The taller figure remained silent. Instead they continued toward the pale, frightened boy.
Finding his courage, Artemis said, “I am Artemis Fowl the Second, and I am new to this world. Who are you and where are we?”
The smaller one spoke up. “I am Lyra Silvertongue. This here is Will Parry. And you’re in Ci’gazze.”
The boy, Will, elbowed her and told Artemis, “This is Cittágazze. It’s the crossroad between all the thousands and millions of worlds out there. Including yours, mine, and Lyra’s.”
They came closer still and Artemis could see that they were merely a pair of children, no older than himself. The boy’s clothes were bloodstained and dirty. His dark hair framed a face of determination and fear, and he was missing the last two fingers on his left hand. The hand was bandaged tightly, but the bandage was crimson with blood. The girl’s long, blonde hair was tangled and wild. Her skirt was torn and patched and it looked like she hadn’t washed in months.
As soon as Will Parry saw that Artemis Fowl the Second was only a pale teenager who looked like he’d never worked a day in his life, he sheathed his weapon carefully as though trying not to cut the thick leather. Lyra never took her suspicious, blue eyes off of Artemis. She held her cupped hands to her chest. To Artemis’ surprise, a mouse crawled out of her hands and perched itself on her shoulder. He could only gape when the mouse transformed into a black raven.
Thoughts ran through his mind. These two children must have great powers. What must I do? He has a knife, she has a thing that can transform into God-knows-what, and what do I have? Nothing…besides a brain that gets me into trouble.
Soon Lyra interrupted the staring match. “Why are you here?”
Artemis decided it was best to lie for a while. “I wandered in here by chance. What about you?”
“My mother is trying to find me,” Lyra said as though it were a normal every-day statement.
“Oh, are you lost then, too?”
Lyra shook her head. “I don’t want her to find me. Or she’ll kill Will.”
“Oh,” Artemis muttered. He turned back toward the portal from which he came to escape these strange children. His knees felt weak and almost gave way. The Portal was gone.
Ooh! Cliffie! Please R&R!!

I like the short chapters! I LOVE short chapters. I’ve read the Dark Materials, and they’re so good! I haven’t seen the movie, though. I don’t want to, anyway. But you should read the other series Philip Pullman wrote. The first one is called the Ruby in the Smoke. READ IT! It’s so good. Btw, I like your story! continue!

artyfowl3, i am sorry to say that i will never read this story, Pullman’s( >:(_)-rar(i hate him)) stories (ANY of them), or any other books about killing God.
Yes, Pullman himself said (and i quote)…
“My books are about killing God.”
