Right. WARNING: SLIGHT SWEARING.
chapter one, Gather Soldiers.
“I repeat, gather, soldiers. This is war.”
That was how it all started. How it dawned upon us there was not going to be peace anymore.
“Captain Short, you wanted to see me… Or am I interrupting?” I look up, ah, yes, the secret. The round-eared fairy. The Artificial. She was a sweet-looking girl, fair, catlike green eyes, brown hair, tall, but definitely fairy, or at the very least a Feybreed. Spent most of her childhood hidden from the fairies, making robots out of garbage cans and funny things like that.
“No.. No Kaye, no… You’re not. ”
“I don’t know Captain, i know it’s not in my right to ask, but… You seem distracted.” Not only was she sweet-looking, she was sweet. And I wasn’t too sure whether she would be able to keep up to the insane beat of this music set out upon her.
“Isn’t everyone, these days?” I smile a little. Good to know there was still someone sane. I stand up. “Sit, Kaye.” She sat.
“You see, Kaye, you’re… Unique.”
“Weird. I know. But I don’t know why.” She sighed, and then smiled. I will never know if she regrets it, or enjoys it.
“Unique. And the reasons behind it are now of no importance. ” I said, she glared a little although she was still smiling. It was important. ” At the moment, Kaye, it is not as important at the moment.” I quickly add.
She seemed slightly more satisfied. “And you call me here because?”
“You see, Kaye, I have something that I need you to do. Something the Council has agreed upon.”
She was silent through the whole explanation. She simply nodded slowly and seemed to be thinking, like she always was.
“Will you do it, then?” I hope for the answer I expect without having to force her.
” I will think about it. And I’ll tell you,” She stood up. “As soon as the answer dawns upon me.” She was about to leave when I gripped her shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Kaye, but that’s not an option right now. There is simply no time to waste on thinking. We must act. Now.”
She turns around and looks down at me.”Acting without thinking wastes more time than you think, captain. Remember what it led us to last time? Full-blown war, what fun!”
Damn it, as always, smart people had always been annoying in one way or another.
“I am the captain right now, and you are merely a citizen, miss Burrows. Do not forget that.” My grip tightened.
She pushes my hand away. ” But I’m unique, Captain.” I was very, very much annoyed. Right at that moment, I felt that my face was as red as Root’s.
“But I’m still Captain. And you will do as the Council calls for.”
“Fine, then. I have one condition.” She finally says.
“What is it, Kaye? I have no time for games.”
“My games always involve thinking, captain, and since you’re incapable of doing that, I gave up playing with you a long time ago.” She smiled at my death glare. I might just kill her when this is all over.
“Your conditions, Kaye?” I ball my fist. She simply chuckles.
