The Red Umbrella

I can't say it was inspired by the painting, "The Red Balloon" (not the movie, the painting), because I've never seen it. It was more inspired by the piece by Anne McGinny, "The Red Balloon" (which was itself inspired by the painting), a slow, flowing piece I played in the All-City Band earlier this year.

This picture was an experiment using the charcoal I got for my birthday. The umbrella is watercolor.

Ally Kat- you like cats? GOOD I DO TOO! I'm not a charcoal person, and if I was, I still wouldn't be able to do that.

Love the seriousness of the picture and the shading, and the sudden contrast of the colored umbrella, adds a “spark” of great humor!
