The Haven Herald

January 24th, 2010

Hey loyal Haven Herald-readers!

It’s been a long time since we updated! So much has been happening. Our two admins have retired/taken leave (we hope that they’ll be back one day!) in order to focus on school and work. Because of this, the Herald has been put on hiatus!

So much has happened since our last issue! We had a fanfiction contest! The Time Paradox has been released! The Fangathering awards have come and went! And, of course, the mods played a wonderful April Fool’s joke on the entire Fangathering forum. 🙂

As you can see, this edition is completely about genders. You know, boys and girls. As you might know, girls are, of course, better than guys. But hey, the guys say that they are better, so this is a fight with no end. Anyway, in this brand new Haven Herald, we have a lot of lovely articles. We’ve attracted the cream of the crop to write for us. I’m sure you will enjoy this edition very much. So, have fun reading!

The site team.

If Things Seem a Little Strange…

January 10th, 2010

We’ve just moved all of FanGathering over to a shiny new VPS server (big upgrade from our old web hosting!).

The nice thing about this is that the site should load a little snappier now (especially on the gallery and forum). But we need your help.

We’d really appreciate it if you could reply here to this post if you spot any errors at all over the next few days. I’ve tested things out pretty thoroughly, but I’ve probably missed a few things out anyway! If the site gives you errors at any point, please let me know (just leave a comment here) so we can get them sorted! 🙂

There’s been one other change;

What Happened to the FanListing?

The FanListing had 768 members from 66 countries. That’s a heck of a lot of Artemis Fowl fans (the biggest collective listing of them on the internet!)

It was nice while it lasted, but I’m afraid the script hasn’t been updated since 2004 now. The site that originally produced it has long since taken it offline because it’s a security risk, and given that fan listings like our one have gone out of fashion online now, I can’t see any viable replacement for it popping up.With all that in mind, the FanListing has been taken down, sorry.

If you’re an Artemis Fowl fan and want something to sign up to though, our forums are much more fun anyway! 😉

What Happened to my Forum Posts?

If you posted a message on the forum during the transfer, sorry, it may have been lost. We put a notice on the forum main page about this, but you mightn’t have seen it on time.

We know it sucks, but it really was unavoidable. If you want to know the reason, read on!

To move the site, we recreated the whole site in the new server first. The very last thing we did was to copy over the forum database again so it was as up to date as possible. At that point we changed FanGathering.com to point to the new server. Unfortunately it takes time (Up to 48 hours) for that change to work its way across the globe, so depending on where you are in the world, you could have been on the new forum in an hour, or waiting a full day… 🙁

We disabled the FanFiction gallery completely during this time, just to make sure that no-one could write new chapters to their stories and end up losing all that. Sorry for any confusion that might have caused!

Hopefully that’s the end of the chaos though, thanks for bearing with us!

The Atlantis Complex Page!

January 4th, 2010

The Atlantis Complex Page.

Thank you very much to HollyShort9 for researching and writing this awesome page!

I know we’re all looking forward to the new book very much, aren’t we? To all you fangirls and fanboys out there: save the squeeesploding for the party, ‘kay? (Or at least until your parents are out of the house. Trust us here.)
Sincerely,

The FanGathering Team

Upcoming: The Atlantis Complex

January 4th, 2010

The Atlantis Complex. We’ve all been hearing about it, and finally, the tiniest bit of information has been revealed!
Only the slightest bit of the plot has been revealed; but in an interview Colfer revealed that Artemis Fowl II somehow joins Opal Koboi in her prison in Atlantis and begrudgingly returns to his criminal ways, though this has not been confirmed to happen. A fan also stated that Colfer told her that the magic in Artemis causes him to develop OCD and multiple personalities, known by fairies as the “Atlantis Complex”. Artemis then becomes an entirely nice and kind person without his criminal ways, who could think up save his friends no matter what the situation.
In that interview, they give us a reason to think that Artemis may still have a little bit of magic left… ‘the magic in Artemis causes him to develop OCD’. We may be jumping at shadows, but there’s a chance there’s still a bit of magic in him!
As of December 25th, 2009, Amazon has released a publishing date of July 13th, 2010, although the publishing date is still subject to change.
Eoin Colfer had stated that The Time Paradox may not be the last book, but will be the last for at least 2 years as of the publication of book VII. This has been confirmed by the announcement of Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex. At a questioning session, after Fairies, Fiends and Flatulence session in Worchester, he revealed that the next book would explain about a link between Holly and Artemis’ birth. He has also let slip that he has plans to have Artemis end up in fairy prison with Opal Koboi (of the present).

Thank you to HollyShort9 for researching and writing this article!
